U.S. Folgore Caratese A.S.D. is an Italian association football club, based in Carate Brianza which currently plays in Serie D group A. History The club was founded in 2011 after the merger of U.S. Folgore Verano (founded in 1951 and playing in Eccellenza) and U.S. Caratese (founded in 1908 and playing in Serie D). The most notable former player of ''Caratese'' has been Moreno Torricelli. Folgore Caratese was formerly a satellite team of Novara Calcio. The club serves as a training side for Novara's young talents. Folgore Caratese was chaired from 2016 to 2022 by journalist Michele Criscitiello, who is also editor-in-chief and co-owner of sports TV channel Sportitalia, the latter serving also as the official club sponsor during the period. Stadio Sergio Lanfranchi, previously known as Stadio XXV Aprile, is a sports stadium dedicated to rugby union, located in the city of Parma in the Emilia-Romagna region of northern Italy. Carate Brianza
Carate Brianza is a town and ''comune'' in the province of Monza and Brianza, Lombardy, northern Italy. The city lies at an elevation ranging from above sea level, on the Lambro river. History The history of Carate Brianza dates back to the Stone Age, as shown by a discovery made of carved rocks that are now preserved in the Archaeological Museum of Milan. The Lombard Queen Theodolinda built in this town a tower, which later was turned into the bell tower for the main church. The Serie D () is the top level of semi-professional football in the country. The fourth tier of the Italian league system, the competition sits beneath the third professional league, Serie C. The Eccellenza (, "excellence") is the fifth level (since 2014–15) of Italian football. It is a regional league, composed of 28 divisions divided geographically. All 20 regions are represented by at least one division except for Piedmont and Aosta Valley which share 2 divisions. Veneto, Tuscany, Sicily, Emilia-Romagna and Campania also have 2 divisions each, while the regions of Lombardy and Lazio have 3 divisions. Promotion and relegation After the regular season is completed, the first-placed team for each division is automatically promoted to Serie D. Each division also admits one other team to participate in national playoffs that take place in late May and early June. Moreno Torricelli (; born 23 January 1970) is an Italian football manager and former defender, who usually played as a full-back on the right flank. Torricelli played for several Italian clubs throughout his career, but achieved prominence during his successful stint with Juventus, with whom he won several titles; he also had a spell in Spain with Espanyol. At international level, he also represented the Italian national side, taking part at UEFA Euro 1996 and the 1998 FIFA World Cup.
