U-Boote Westwärts!
''U-Boote westwärts!'' (in English: ''U-boats Westward!'') is a 1941 German war propaganda film promoting the '' Kriegsmarine''. It concerns a U-boat mission in the Battle of the Atlantic and was produced by UFA. The U-boat used for the film was , which would later play a major role in Operation Drumbeat. Plot The film opens aboard a U-boat as it returns from a mission. It then follows the crew onshore the day before they ship off for their next mission—meeting their family and sweethearts, spending a last night at a club, and so forth. Then they ship off, soon sighting and boarding a Dutch merchant ship, which they inspect for contraband. The boarding of the ship is shown being done professionally and in a non-confrontational manner. While they are aboard the Dutch ship, a Royal Navy ship spots them and tries to torpedo them, but the U-boat ends up sinking it. Günther Rittau
Günther Rittau (born 7 August 1893 in Königshütte (Silesia); died 6 August 1971 in Munich) was a German cinematographer and film director. After study of science in Berlin, Rittau started his career in 1919 at the documentary-film department of Decla, later at Universum Film AG. He learned the job of camera operator "on the side". From 1924, he was active as a feature cameraman. His experiences with the documentary film production and the production of trick photographs let to the development of his style. ''Metropolis'' (1927) and a propaganda movie ''U-Boote westwärts!'' (en:''U-boats westwards!'') (1941, as director) are considered to be among his best artistic achievements. His film ''The Eternal Tone'' (1943) about two brothers (a violinist and a violin maker) was considered "artistically valuable" by the Reichsfilmkammer. Wilhelm Borchert (actor)
Ernst Wilhelm Borchert, or just Wilhelm Borchert, (13 March 1907 in Rixdorf – 1 June 1990 in Berlin) was a German actor. He was also a voice actor for audio books and films. Theater After graduating, Borchert pursued a degree in acting at the Reicherschen Hochschule für dramatische Kunst (Reicherschen School for dramatic arts) from 1926-27. For his talent in acting, Borchert became a Staatsschauspieler (Actor of the state) and a Honorary member of the State Theater of Berlin in 1973. He was also a member of the Akademie der Künste Berlin until 1976. Borchert equally impressed the public and critics in classic hero roles. Duplicity is the error committed when the charge (known as a ''count'') on an indictment describes two different offences. An indictment may contain more than one count, but each count must allege only one offence, so that the defendant (and the jury) can know precisely what offences he or she is accused of. If a count is poorly drafted so that it alleges two offences, it is said to be "duplicitous". Karl Dönitz (sometimes spelled Doenitz; ; 16 September 1891 24 December 1980) was a German admiral who briefly succeeded Adolf Hitler as head of state in May 1945, holding the position until the dissolution of the Flensburg Government following Germany's unconditional surrender to the Allies days later. As Supreme Commander of the Navy beginning in 1943, he played a major role in the naval history of World War II. He began his career in the Imperial German Navy before World War I.
