U. S. Route 29 In Alabama
U.S. Highway 29 (US 29), internally designated by the Alabama Department of Transportation as State Route 15 (SR 15), is a southwest–northeast state highway across the southeastern part of the U.S. state of Alabama. US 29 and SR 15 traverse Alabama in a general northeast–southwest slope. It has never been a major route in the state; its significance was completely overshadowed with the completion of Interstate 65 (I-65) and I-85 during the 1970s. Today, US 29 and SR 15 serve primarily to connect numerous smaller towns and cities in the southwest, south-central, and eastern parts of Alabama. Macon County is a county located in the east central part of the U.S. state of Alabama. As of the 2020 census, the population was 19,532. Its county seat is Tuskegee. State Route 55 (SR 55) is a state highway in the southern part of the U.S. state of Alabama. The southern terminus of the highway is at the Florida state line, where the highway continues as Florida State Road 85 (SR 85). The northern terminus of the highway is at an intersection with SR 106 at Georgiana in southern Butler County. Route description SR 55 is a continuation of a route heading northward from Fort Walton Beach and Crestview, Florida. East Brewton is a city in Escambia County, Alabama, United States. It was incorporated in October 1918. At the 2020 census, the population was 2,293. The community grew around Fort Crawford, a fort built to protect early settlers of the area. Geography East Brewton is located in east-central Escambia County at (31.092408, -87.053174). Flomaton is a town in Escambia County, Alabama, United States. At the 2010 census the town's population was 1,440. It is located next to the Alabama / Florida state line. History Flomaton was incorporated as a town in 1908, having been settled on a railway junction in 1869. The site was a junction of different lines of the Louisville & Nashville Railroad. Into the 1960s the L&N ran trains south to the beach resort city of Pensacola, Florida. The L&N main line was a conduit for trains to New York City, Cincinnati, Atlanta and New Orleans. Interstate 85 (I-85) is a part of the Interstate Highway System that runs from Montgomery, Alabama, to Petersburg, Virginia.
