U.S. Route 31A
U.S. Route 31A (US 31A) is a alternate route of U.S. Route 31 that exists between Nashville and Pulaski, Tennessee. It is located entirely in Middle Tennessee and except for the Lewisburg bypass, where it is concurrent with SR 106, it is entirely concurrent with unsigned State Route 11 (SR 11). Route description US 31A begins in Giles County in Pulsaki at an intersection with US 31 ( SR 7) just north of downtown. It winds its way northeast through the hilly terrain of the Highland Rim for several miles to cross into Marshall County at an interchange with I-65 (Exit 22). The highway then passes through the town of Cornersville, where it has a long concurrency with SR 129, before continuing northeast to enter Nashville Basin and the city of Lewisburg at an intersection with US 31A Business. Pulaski, Tennessee
Pulaski is a city in and the county seat of Giles County, which is located on the central-southern border of Tennessee, United States. The population was 8,397 at the 2020 census. It was named after Casimir Pulaski, a noted Polish-born soldier on the patriots side in the American Revolutionary War. During the Civil War, after the Union took control of Tennessee in 1862, thousands of African Americans left plantations and farms to join their lines for refuge. The Army set up a contraband camp in Pulaski to help house the freedmen and their families, feed them, and put them to work. In addition, education classes were started. Shortly after the war ended, in late 1865, Pulaski was the site of Confederate veterans organizing the first chapter of what became known as the Ku Klux Klan, a secret, white supremacist group. Allisona is an unincorporated community in Rutherford and Williamson counties, Tennessee. Tennessee State Route 270
State Route 270 (SR 270), also known as Old Columbia Road, is a east–west state highway in Middle Tennessee. It connects Chapel Hill with Unionville and Shelbyville. Route description SR 270 begins in Marshall County in Chapel Hill at an intersection with US 31A/ SR 11/ SR 99 just south of downtown. It goes east to leave Chapel Hill and pass through wooded areas, where it crosses a bridge over a creek, before passing through farmland to cross into Bedford County. The highway winds its way southeast, where it crosses over another creek, and passes through farmland and rural areas for several miles before coming to an end at an intersection with US 41A/ SR 16 between Unionville and Shelbyville. State Route 99 (SR 99) is a long east–west highway in Middle Tennessee. The route travels through large sections of rural areas and for most of the length is a secondary highway. The route begins near Waynesboro and ends in Bradyville after logging and passing through six counties. State Route 64 (SR 64) is an east–west state highway in Middle Tennessee. The route goes from the Lewisburg area to rural western Cannon County via Shelbyville and Beech Grove.
