U.S. Route 183 In Kansas
U.S. Route 183 (US-183) is a part of the U.S. Highway System that runs from US-77 in Refugio, Texas north to Interstate 90 (I-90) in Presho, South Dakota. In the U.S. state of Kansas, US-183 is a main north–south highway that runs from the Oklahoma border north to the Nebraska border. Between 1930 and 1931, US-183 was extended south into Kansas to US-83 in Dresden. Then between July 1938 and 1939, US-183 was altered to follow US-36 east to K-1 in Phillipsburg, then south along K-1 to US-160. Then continued west along US-160 to K-34 in Sitka, which it followed south from Sitka to the Oklahoma border. Between 1941 and 1944, US-183 and US-83 were swapped within Nebraska and a small portion into Kansas, which straightened their alignment and eliminated the overlap between the two in Norton. K-383 (Kansas Highway)
K-383 is a state highway in Kansas, United states. The highway runs from U.S. Route 83 (US-83) and K-23 near Selden north and east to US-183 near Woodruff, just south of the Nebraska state line. K-383 runs southwest–northeast and connects Norton with Colby to the southwest and Alma, Nebraska, to the northeast via the valley of Prairie Dog Creek, a tributary of the Republican River. The highway also serves the cities of Selden in northern Sheridan County; Dresden, Jennings, and Clayton in southeastern Decatur County; Almena in eastern Norton County; and Long Island in northern Phillips County. K-383 is a part of the National Highway System from its western terminus at US-83 to the eastern US-36 junction near Norton. Selden, Kansas
Selden is a city in Sheridan County, Kansas, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 184. History Selden was laid out in 1888. It was named for one of its founders, Selden G. Hopkins. The first post office in Selden was established in July 1888. On June 3, 1959, a severe thunderstorm dropped up to of hail on the town. Hail fell in the town for a record 85 minutes and the temperature dropped from to at the height of the storm. Crops were completely destroyed by the storm with total losses. Norton is a city in, and the county seat of, Norton County, Kansas, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 2,747. History Norton was founded in 1872. Like the county, it was named for Capt. Orloff Norton. The first hotel was a log house, built in 1873. Interstate 90 (I-90) in the US state of South Dakota traverses east–west through the southern half of the state. Route description I-90 enters South Dakota in Lawrence County as a four-lane divided highway.
