Törr
Törr is a Czech metal band founded in Prague in 1977. They are considered one of the first Czech black metal bands. To date, they have released ten studio albums, two live albums, and two compilations. History Early years: 1977–1986 Törr, named after the unit of pressure, was formed in 1977 by vocalist and guitarist Ota Hereš and drummer Pavel Kadeřábek, though the original spelling of their name lacked the metal umlaut it sports today. The band began by playing heavy metal, and a year later, they were joined by bass player Filip Moldan. Michael Jakubův soon replaced Kadeřábek on drums and in 1980, they added a second guitarist, Jiří Podzimek, becoming a foursome. Podzimek left a year later, however, and the band returned to playing as a trio until 1983, when David Strnad took on second guitar duties. Aleš Brichta
Aleš Brichta (born 9 August 1959 in Prague, Czechoslovakia) is a Czech heavy metal singer, songwriter, and artist. He is a founding member of the band Arakain, which he left in 2002. He now plays with Aleš Brichta Project. Biography In 1982, together with guitarist Jiří Urban and drummer Miroslav Nedvěd, Brichta founded the heavy metal band Arakain, which went on to become one of the most seminal metal bands in Czech history. Brichta recorded eleven albums with the rockers, but departed in 2002. In 2005, he founded his own group, ABBAND (Aleš Brichta Band), in which he was joined by former collaborators Mirek Mach (Arakain) and Karel Adam. They released four studio albums between 2006 and 2010. Metal Umlaut
A metal umlaut is a diacritic that is sometimes used gratuitously or decoratively over letters in the names of mainly hard rock or heavy metal bands—for example, those of Blue Öyster Cult, Queensrÿche, Motörhead, the Accüsed, Mötley Crüe and the parody bands Spın̈al Tap, Green Jellÿ and Moxy Früvous. Usage Among English speakers, the use of umlaut marks and other diacritics with a blackletter typeface is a form of foreign branding which has been attributed to a desire for a "gothic horror" feel. The metal umlaut is not generally intended to affect the pronunciation of the band's name, unlike the umlaut in German (where the letters ''u'' and '' ü'' represent distinct vowels) and the Scandinavian languages (where å, ä and a, ö/ø and o are distinct letters). Miloš "Dodo" Doležal (born 12 August 1966) is a Czech guitarist, composer, singer, and producer who has released a number of solo albums since 1991. He gained fame in the late 1980s as the frontman of the heavy metal band Vitacit. He has also played with the band Pražský výběr and spearheaded the supergroup Zemětřesení. Biography Early career and Vitacit Doležal began singing in a children's choir in his hometown of Karviná. Some of his earliest musical projects include stints with the bands Kennel, Asparagus, Žádná Křeč, and Pražský výběr. In 1985, he joined the band Vitacit as lead guitarist. At the time, the band leader was vocalist Ladislav Křížek (Kreyson, Citron), and the two wrote a number of hits together. When Křížek left Vitacit in 1987, Doležal became the new frontman. Countess Bathory (song)
"Countess Bathory" is a song by English heavy metal band Venom. The song originally appeared on the band's 1982 album ''Black Metal'' as well as their 1986 live album '' Eine kleine Nachtmusik''. Writing and recording "Countess Bathory", like all songs on the album were written by vocalist and bassist Conrad "Cronos" Lant and guitarist Jeffrey "Mantas" Dunn. It was written when band drummer Tony "Abaddon" Bray was late for a session, so Dunn began jamming some new riffs while Lant would work the lyrics out. The bands roadie came in the room and began drumming for them, and soon after "Abaddon" would come in and tried to make up a new drum pattern, but Lant and Dunn felt the roadie's drum pattern worked best. Lant also explained the origin of the song's opening riff, saying that it was inspired by the opening theme song of the children's show ''The Magic Roundabout''. Vitacit is a Czech hard rock/heavy metal band founded in Roztoky U Prahy, a town within the Prague district, in 1973. History Early years: 1973–1985 The formation of Vitacit began in 1973, under the name Smetiště, in Roztoky U Prahy. The founding members were Karel Adam on drums, Jiří Voldřich on bass, and Jiří Kadlec on guitar and vocals. The name Smetiště, meaning "junkyard", was unpopular, and the band eventually picked Vitacit, a popular brand of drink crystals, instead. During these early years, Vitacit saw limited success.
