Tynong
Tynong is a town in Gippsland, Victoria, Australia, 66 km south-east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the Shire of Cardinia local government area. Tynong recorded a population of 523 at the 2021 census. Tynong was settled in the early 1880s and the Post Office opened on 1 November 1882. Places of interest include Gumbuya World, Pakenham Racecourse, Mill Valley Ranch and Tynong railway station. Tynong is notable for the granodiorite quarried from the area for the construction of the Melbourne Shrine of Remembrance. Tynong North, Victoria
Tynong North is a locality in West Gippsland, Victoria, Australia, south-east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the Shire of Cardinia local government area. Tynong North recorded a population of 440 at the 2021 census. Tynong North is separated from Tynong by the Princes Freeway, which runs between the two settlements. The localities are further distinguished geographically with Tynong being situated on the edge of a reclaimed swamp while Tynong North sits at the foot of the mountains in the Weatherhead Range, and is adjacent to Bunyip State Park and the Weatherhead Forest Reserve. The Shire of Cardinia is a local government area in Victoria, Australia, in the south-east of Melbourne between Western Port and the Yarra Ranges on the outskirts of Melbourne. It has an area of 1,283 square kilometres, and had a population of 107,120 in June 2018. Cardinia Shire Council Offices are located in Officer. Prior to 17 November 2014, they were located in Pakenham. Gumbuya World
Gumbuya World (formerly Gumbuya Park) is an amusement park in Tynong North, Victoria, near Pakenham, in Victoria, Australia. The park is owned by Jayco, Inc Australia founder and owner Gerry Ryan and Carsales.com owner Wal Pisciotta since September 2016. The park contains various rides and attractions ranging from water slides to roller coasters and wildlife exhibits. Its two major waterslides are the Boomerango and the Taipan. The park also features a lazy river ride, giant water playground, wave simulator, fun-for-all roller coaster, suspened family coaster, thilling skyloop coaster, tree swing, train ride, dodgem cars, and a berry twirl ride for young children. There is also an exhibit featuring dingoes, lizards, crocodiles, koalas, aviaries and wallabies which incorporates a petting zoo. Shrine Of Remembrance
The Shrine of Remembrance (commonly referred to as The Shrine) is a war memorial in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, located in Kings Domain on St Kilda Road. It was built to honour the men and women of Victoria who served in World War I, but now functions as a memorial to all Australians who have served in any war. It is a site of annual observances for Anzac Day (25 April) and Remembrance Day (11 November), and is one of the largest war memorials in Australia. Designed by architects Phillip Hudson and James Wardrop, both World War I veterans, the Shrine is in classical style, based on the Tomb of Mausolus at Halicarnassus and the Parthenon in Athens, Greece. The crowning element at the top of the ziggurat roof references the Choragic Monument of Lysicrates. Built from Tynong granite, the Shrine originally consisted only of the central sanctuary surrounded by the ambulatory. Nar Nar Goon is a town in Gippsland, Victoria, Australia, 61 km south-east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the Shire of Cardinia local government area. Mill Valley Ranch is a Christian Youth Camp in Tynong North, South East of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. History Established by Arthur & Bonnie Bartlett, Joy & Warren Carrol & Eric Watts in 1967, upon the invitation of the Weatherheads, a sawmilling family who pioneered the area. The idea of an inter-denominational Christian camp for young people, designed as a western village, the campsite began small. Along with Arthur and Bonnie, a builder and a cook joined the team to develop the campsite. The name "Mill Valley Ranch" was chosen to reflect the main business of the area, which was sawmilling, the campsite's location, the valley, and the nature of the campsite, being a horse riding ranch. The Shire of Pakenham was a local government area about southeast of Melbourne, the state capital of Victoria, Australia. The shire covered an area of , and existed from 1862 until 1994. History The Berwick Road District was incorporated on 24 October 1862, and became a shire on 12 May 1868. At the time, it was a considerably larger area, extending well into what is now Melbourne's eastern and southeastern suburbs, including today's City of Knox, as well as areas east of Dandenong and the Dandenong Ranges. Granodiorite () is a coarse-grained (phaneritic) intrusive igneous rock similar to granite, but containing more plagioclase feldspar than orthoclase feldspar. The term banatite is sometimes used informally for various rocks ranging from granite to diorite, including granodiorite. Composition According to the QAPF diagram, granodiorite has a greater than 20% quartz by volume, and between 65% and 90% of the feldspar is plagioclase. A greater amount of plagioclase would designate the rock as tonalite. Granodiorite is felsic to intermediate in composition. It is the intrusive igneous equivalent of the extrusive igneous dacite.
