''Two in a Car'' (German: ''Zwei in einem Auto'') is a 1932 German comedy film directed by Joe May and starring Karl Ludwig Diehl, Magda Schneider and Richard Romanowsky.Bock & Bergfelder p.514 It was shot at the Joinville Studios of Pathé-Natan in Paris with sets designed by the art directors Heinrich Richter and Hermann Warm. It premiered at the Gloria-Palast in Berlin. A separate French version ''Companion Wanted'' was also released. In 1940 the film was remade at the Cinecitta studios in Rome as ''Two on a Vacation''. Joe May
Joe May (born Joseph Otto Mandl; 7 November 1880 – 29 April 1954) was an Austrian film director and film producer and one of the pioneers of German cinema. Biography After studying in Berlin and a variety of odd jobs, he began his career as a stage director of operettas in Hamburg. In 1902 he had married the actress Mia May (born Hermine Pfleger) and took his stage name from hers. Continental-Kunstfilm As Joe May, he made ten films for Continental-Kunstfilm GmbH in Berlin; the first, ''In der Tiefe des Schachtes (In the Depths of the Pit)'' was released in November 1912, followed by ''Vorglühen des Balkanbrandes (The Balkan Traitors)'' (starring Ernst Reicher). Kurt Gerron
Kurt Gerron (11 May 1897 – 28 October 1944) was a German Jewish actor and film director. He and his wife, Olga were murdered in the Holocaust. Life Born Kurt Gerson into a well-off merchant family in Berlin, he studied medicine before being called up for military service in World War I. After being seriously wounded, he was qualified as a military doctor in the German Army, despite having been only in his second year at university. After the war Gerron turned to a stage career, becoming a theatre actor under director Max Reinhardt in 1920. He appeared in secondary roles in several silent films and began directing film shorts in 1926. Gerron's popular cinema breakthrough came with '' The Blue Angel'' (''Der Blaue Engel'', 1930) opposite Marlene Dietrich. Gloria-Palast
The Gloria-Palast was a German Movie theater, cinema located on the Kurfürstendamm in the German capital Berlin. It was constructed in 1924 and replaced the existing Baroque Revival architecture, neo-Baroque Romanischen Hauses designed by Franz Heinrich Schwechten. It became a common location for Berlin premieres of new films. In 1930 the hit ''The Blue Angel'' first screened at the Palast. In 1943 the cinema was gutted by a fire caused by an Strategic bombing during World War II, Allied bombing raid during the Second World War. After the war, the cinema was refurbished and reopened in what was now West Berlin during the Cold War.
