Tuttlingen (district)
Tuttlingen is a ''Landkreis'' (district) in the south of Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Neighboring districts are (from north clockwise) Rottweil, Zollernalbkreis, Sigmaringen, Constance and Schwarzwald-Baar. History The district dates back to the ''Oberamt Tuttlingen'', which was created in 1806. After several minor changes it was merged with the Oberamt Spaichingen and converted into the district in 1938. In 1973 it was enlarged by some municipalities from the dissolved districts Donaueschingen and Stockach. Tuttlingen
Tuttlingen ( Alemannic: ''Duttlinga'') is a town in Baden-Württemberg, capital of the district Tuttlingen. Nendingen, ''Möhringen'' and ''Eßlingen'' are three former municipalities that belong to Tuttlingen. Tuttlingen is located in Swabia east of the Black Forest region in the Swabian Jura. Geography The town lies in the valley of the Upper Danube on both sides of the stream, the source of which is located 30 km nearby in Donaueschingen. The early river flowed around the Honberg mountain, where ruins of a fortress built in the Middle Ages remain. History The name indicates Tuttlingen likely was a Celtic settlement long before the Romans erected a border castellum at the limes. Böttingen
Böttingen is a municipality in the district of Tuttlingen in Baden-Württemberg in Germany. In recent decades it has developed from an agricultural village to an advanced industrial community. Geography Böttingen sits on a plateau in the southwestern Swabian Jura in a long dry valley. At an elevation of 911 to 991 meters it was the highest village in the historical Kingdom of Württemberg. Bärenthal
Bärenthal is a municipality in the district of Tuttlingen (district), Tuttlingen in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. History Beuron Archabbey, Beuron Abbey gained possession of Bärenthal in 1751. It became a possession of the Principality of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen in 1803 and was assigned to until 1820 and then until 1860. In 1938, the district of Wald was dissolved and Bärenthal was assigned to the newly-created Landkreis Sigmaringen. This district, too, was abolished in the and Bärenthal was placed in the newly-organized district of Tuttlingen. The village grew to about its present size in 1960 and has, since 1999, been the least-populated municipality in the district of Tuttlingen. Balgheim
Balgheim is a municipality in the district of Tuttlingen in Baden-Württemberg in Germany. Geography Balgheim lies in a basin on the edge of the Baar at the foot of the Swabian Jura and the Dreifaltigkeitsberg (Holy Trinity Mountain). The European Watershed, the divide between the Rhine and Danube watersheds, occurs in the town's territory. The source of the Prim, which joins the Neckar (a tributary of the Rhine) in Rottweil, is located only a kilometer away from the source of the Faulenbach, an eventual tributary of the Danube, in neighboring Dürbheim. Aldingen is a municipality in the district of Tuttlingen in Baden-Württemberg in Germany. Geography Aldingen lies on the eastern edge of the Baar region at the foot of the Swabian Jura, and within sight of the Dreifaltigkeitsberg (Holy Trinity Mountain). Nendingen
Nendingen is a German village with 2850 inhabitants in Baden-Württemberg. The Danube flows through Nendingen, which lies between the towns Tuttlingen and Mühlheim an der Donau. Nendingen was founded by Nando, an Alamanni, between 260 and 300 AD. The majority of the Nendingers are Catholics and the church „St. Petrus und Jakobus“ (Saint Peter and James, son of Zebedee) is very old (Rococo) and nice. Nendingen belongs to the diocese Rottenburg-Stuttgart. Until 1873, parts of Mühlheim and Tuttlingen pertained to the Nendinger parish. The most popular sports are wrestling and handball.
