Turku Student Village
Turku Student Village ( fi, Turun ylioppilaskylä, abbreviated , sv, Studentbyn) is the largest single student housing complex in Finland. It houses nearly 3,500 residents in 95 three-storied tenements. The Student Village is located in the district of Nummi near the city centre of Turku. It is in the immediate proximity of the University of Turku, Åbo Akademi University and the Turku School of Economics and Business Administration. There is one shop in the area, plus several day care centres, schools, a cemetery and a Lutheran church. The area offers good opportunities for both outdoor and indoor sports, as there are hiking trails and facilities for activities such as swimming, tennis, volleyball and basketball among other things. The Student Village also has good public transport connections, with buses every fifteen minutes. Posankka
''Posankka'' ( sv, Grisankan) is a statue located in Turku, Finland. The statue, which is located near the campus area of the University of Turku and the Turku Student Village, represents a hybrid between a marzipan pig ("possu") and a rubber duck ("ankka"). It is a pink animal with a duck's lower body and a pig's head. The statue was designed by Alvar Gullichsen in 1999 when it was placed floating in the Aurajoki river in Turku. The statue has stood at its current location since 2001. Rauma, Finland
Rauma (; sv, Raumo) is a town and municipality of around () inhabitants on the west coast of Finland, north of Turku, and south of Pori. Its neighbouring municipalities are Eura, Eurajoki, Laitila and Pyhäranta. Granted town privileges on 17 April 1442 (then under the rule of Sweden), Rauma is known for its paper and maritime industry, high quality lace (since the 18th century) and the old wooden architecture of the city centre (Old Rauma, Vanha Rauma), which is a UNESCO World Heritage site. History In the 14th century, before it was declared a town, Rauma had a Franciscan monastery and a Catholic church. Student Union Of The University Of Turku
The Student Union of the University of Turku (TYY, in Finnish ''Turun yliopiston ylioppilaskunta'') is a body to which, under public law, all University of Turku bachelor's and master's degree students belong. It is among the oldest student unions in Finland. Postgraduate and exchange students may become a member of TYY, but it is not obligatory. Visiting (non-degree students) are ineligible to join TYY. TYY was founded in 1922 and it joined the National Union of University Students in Finland (SYL) in 1927. It is the second largest student union in Finland which has around 30,000 members. Its activities take place in Turku, Rauma, Pori and Salo.
