Turkestan Bhittani
Turkistan Bhittani or Turkestan Bettani ( – 23 December 2019) was the militant leader of a pro-Government of Pakistan, government Taliban faction based in the town of Tank (Pakistan), Tank in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan. He is notable for his opposition to the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). Turkistan belongs to Bettani tribe (also spelled Bhittani). Background During his teens, Bhittani joined in the Soviet–Afghan War, anti-Soviet jihad in Afghanistan. Later, Turkistan served in the Frontier Corps until his retirement in 1998. He then joined the Taliban in the Civil war in Afghanistan (1996–2001), Afghan Civil War and remained in 2001 to fight against US-led forces. Mehsud
The Mahsud or Mehsood ( ps, محسود), also spelled Maseed ( ps, ماسيد), is a Karlani Pashtun tribe inhabiting mostly the South Waziristan Agency in the former Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) of Pakistan, now merged within Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan. A minor number of Maseed are settled in the Logar Province of Afghanistan, especially in Charkh District, Baraki barak and Muhammad Agha, but also in Wardak, Ghazni and Kunduz Provinces. The Maseeds inhabit the center and north of South Waziristan valley, surrounded on three sides by the Darweshkhel Wazirs, and being shut off by the Bettanis Pashtun tribe on the east from the Derajat and Bannu districts. Jirga
A jirga ( ps, جرګه, ''jərga'') is an assembly of leaders that makes decisions by consensus according to Pashtunwali, the Pashtun social code. It is conducted in order to settle disputes among the Pashtuns, but also by members of other ethnic groups who are influenced by them in present-day Afghanistan and Pakistan. Historically, a ''loya jirga'' or a "great council" has been convened in order to elect a new head of state, approve a new constitution or resolve critical issues. ''Loya jirgas'' have reportedly been organized since the rise to power of the Hotak dynasty in the early 18th century. Qari Zainuddin Mehsud
Qari Zainuddin Mehsud (died ), commonly known as Qari Zain, was a citizen of Pakistan, a member of the Mehsud tribe, and a leader of the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP/Pakistani Taliban) in South Waziristan, one of Pakistan's Federally Administered Tribal Areas. Pakistan's '' Daily Times'' described him as the "self-appointed successor of Taliban commander Abdullah Mehsud" although he feuded with Baitullah Mehsud over leadership of the Pakistani Taliban. In the months before his assassination, the Pakistani government unofficially supported Zainuddin as a counter to Baitullah.
