Etymology Pliny the Elder associated the name with ''Durius'' (the ancient name of Upper Váh), Ptolemy with the Celtic Taurisci The Taurisci were a federation of Celtic tribes who dwelt in today's Carinthia and northern Slovenia ( Carniola) before the coming of the Romans (c. 200 BC). Sajó
The Sajó ( , Hungarian) or Slaná ( Slovak) is a river in Slovakia and Hungary. Its length is 229 km, of which 110 km is in Slovakia. Its source is in the Stolica Mountains range of the Slovak Ore Mountains. It flows through the Slovak town Rožňava and the Hungarian city Miskolc. In Hungary it flows through the county of Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén. It flows into the River Tisza near Tiszaújváros. Its main tributaries are the Bodva and the Hornád. Also known for Battle of the Sajó River from 11 April 1241 between the Mongol Empire and the Kingdom of Hungary. Etymology The origin of the name is the subject of scholar discussions. Tornaľa
Tornaľa (formerly ''Šafárikovo'', hu, Tornalja) is a town and municipality in Revúca District in the Banská Bystrica Region of Slovakia, with a population of approximately 7,000. History The first written record of the settlement dates from 1245. It was ruled by Ottoman Empire as part of Filek sanjak (Its centre was Rimaszombat) during periods of 1554-1593 and 1596–1686. It was made part of Czechoslovakia, and remained as such except for a period of Hungarian rule between 1938 and 1945 due to the Vienna Awards. Geography Tornaľa lies at an altitude of above sea level and covers an area of . It is located in the historical Gemer region and lies on the Slaná river.
