A nickname is a substitute for the proper name of a familiar person, place or thing. Commonly used to express affection, a form of endearment, and sometimes amusement, it can also be used to express defamation of character. Tuck & Patti are an American jazz duo consisting of guitarist William Charles "Tuck" Andress (born Oct. 28, 1952 in Tulsa, Oklahoma) and singer Patricia "Patti" Cathcart Andress (born October 4, 1949, in San Francisco). Music career Guitarist Tuck Andress met singer Patti Cathcart at an audition in San Francisco in 1978. Before this, Andress studied classical music at Stanford and was a session musician with The Gap Band. Cathcart was also classically trained and was a member of The Brides of Funkenstein. Andress and Cathcart married in 1983. After moving to Cathcart's hometown of San Francisco, they worked in a rock and roll cover band. They declined offers of recording contracts so they could polish their sound. James McIntyre (footballer)
James McIntyre (born c.1860 – died 1943) was a Scottish footballer, who played for Rangers and Scotland. He played at half back. Glasgow born McIntyre, known as 'Tuck', was the younger brother of Hugh, another Scotland international. He began with Glasgow sides St Andrews and Alexandra Athletic before joining Rangers in 1883. He remained with the club for the rest of his playing career, and was in the team which shared the first Scottish Football League championship of 1890-91. George Tucker Stainback (August 4, 1911 – November 29, 1992) was an American professional baseball outfielder. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for 13 seasons with the Chicago Cubs (1934–1937), St. Louis Cardinals (1938), Philadelphia Phillies (1938), Brooklyn Dodgers (1938–1939), Detroit Tigers (1940–1941), New York Yankees (1942–1945), and Philadelphia Athletics (1946). Playing career Born in Los Angeles, Stainback played in 817 games, 629 in the outfield. For his career, he had a .259 batting average with 17 home runs and 204 RBIs. An unusual statistic from his career was that his career errors (48) outnumbered his home runs and stolen bases combined (44). Thomas Syme
Thomas Woods "Tom, Tuck" Syme (15 May 1928 – 22 August 2011) was a British ice hockey player. He played for the Dunfermline Vikings and Paisley Pirates during the 1940s and 1950s. He also played for the Great Britain national ice hockey team at the 1948 Winter Olympics and the 1950 Ice Hockey World Championships. After retiring from ice hockey he emigrated to Canada before settling in the United States in 1960. Tuck Turner
George A. Turner (February 13, 1867 – July 16, 1945) was an American Major League Baseball player for the Philadelphia Phillies and St. Louis Browns. Career Born in West New Brighton, Staten Island, Turner began his baseball career as a paid player in the Buffalo Amateur Baseball League of the Amateur Athletic Union. "Tuck" broke into the National League with the Philadelphia Phillies in 1893 at the age of 26, but as was a common practice in baseball at the time, Turner lied about his age, claiming to be only 20. In 1894, Turner was part of one of the greatest outfields in baseball history; Turner, Billy Hamilton, Sam Thompson, and Ed Delahanty all batted over .400 on the year. Dave Tucker (geologist)
David Samuel Tucker is a geologist in Washington state. He is a research associate at Western Washington University. He was an instructor at North Cascades Institute, and the director of the Mount Baker Volcano Research Center (now closed). He writes the blog "Northwest Geology Field Trips", a blog aimed at laypeople detailing where to find interesting geology in the Pacific Northwest. In 2015, he published a popular book on Washington geology, ''Geology Underfoot in Western Washington''. He resides in Bellingham, Washington. In the 1980s he worked as a mountaineering guide in the Cascades, Mexico, and South America. Early life and education Tucker was born in Lynchburg, Virginia. He attended Virginia Episcopal School and Virginia Commonwealth University. He would spend most of his time at home watching cartoons with his father and cites these experiences as being very special to him. He married Connie Dyste in 1990 and had one daughter, Gina Tucker. The family resided in La Cañada Flintridge. Connie Tucker died of a rare cancer in 2015 and Tucker moved home to Virginia to teach art to students at Longwood University.
