Thomas Syme
Thomas Woods "Tom, Tuck" Syme (15 May 1928 – 22 August 2011) was a British ice hockey player. He played for the Dunfermline Vikings and Paisley Pirates during the 1940s and 1950s. He also played for the Great Britain national ice hockey team at the 1948 Winter Olympics and the 1950 Ice Hockey World Championships. After retiring from ice hockey he emigrated to Canada before settling in the United States in 1960. He was inducted to the British Ice Hockey Hall of Fame The British Ice Hockey Hall of Fame was founded in 1948 and is the third oldest ice hockey Hall of Fame in the world, behind the Russian and Soviet Hockey Hall of Fame (also founded in 1948) and the International Hockey Hall of Fame (founded in 19 ... in 2005. Defenceman (ice Hockey)
Defence or defense (in American English) in ice hockey is a player position that is primarily responsible for preventing the opposing team from scoring. They are often referred to as defencemen, D, D-men or blueliners (the latter a reference to the blue line in ice hockey which represents the boundary of the offensive zone; defencemen generally position themselves along the line to keep the puck in the zone). They were once called cover-point. In regular play, two defencemen complement three forwards and a goaltender on the ice. Exceptions include overtime during the regular season and when a team is shorthanded (i.e. has been assessed a penalty), in which two defencemen are typically joined by only two forwards and a goaltender. James "Tiny" Syme (1 October 1926 – 22 August 1973) was a British ice hockey player. He played for the Dunfermline Vikings and Paisley Pirates during the 1940s and 1950s.
