Tsai Hong-tu
Tsai Hong-tu (; born 1 August 1952) is a Taiwanese businessman and banker. He is a son of Tsai Wan-lin, the former richest person of Taiwan who died in 2004. Business career Tsai Hong-tu is the chairman of the board of Cathay Financial Holdings. Inherited stakes of the company with brothers Tsai Cheng-da and T. Y. Tsai when father Tsai Wan-lin died in 2004. Family also controls Cathay Real Estate, a Taiwan property developer. Tsai Wan-lin (; 10 November 1924 – 27 September 2004) was a Taiwanese businessman who, at the peak of his wealth in 1996, was considered to be the fifth richest person in the world, with a family net worth of US$12.2 billion. At the time of his death in 2004, he was the richest man in Taiwan with a fortune of US$4.6 billion (NT$156.3 billion), ranked 94th worldwide. He founded the Lin Yuan Group, a large banking and insurance group. Cathay United Bank () is one of the largest commercial banks in Taiwan, with a capital value of TW$67 billion (approximately US$2.23 billion) and more than 165 branches located throughout Taiwan. Cathay (; ) is a historical name for China that was used in Europe.
