True Path Party (2007)
The True Path Party ( tr, Doğru Yol Partisi), abbreviated to DYP, is a centre-right, conservative Turkish political party, established by the lawyer Çetin Özaçıkgöz in 2007. It got 0.15% of the votes in the general elections of 2011. It is not to be confused with the True Path Party founded in 1983 by Ahmet Nusret Tuna, which was renamed to Democratic Party in 2007. Çetin Özaçıkgöz
Çetin Özaçıkgöz (born 1943) is a Turkish politician and lawyer who currently serves as the leader of the True Path Party (DYP) in Turkey. Özaçıkgöz re-established the DYP in 2007 after the original True Path Party changed its name to Democratic Party (DP). Early life and career Özaçıkgöz worked for the ''Yeni Çığır'' magazine in 1964 before becoming the President of the Justice Party (AP) youth wing in Bolu Province in 1968. Moving to Ankara in 1969, he worked at the AP headquarters on electoral matters before becoming the head of public relations at the Ministry of Public Works in 1970. He served as the head of public relations for a year until 1971, after which he became the President of the AP Youth Wing until 1974. Between 1975 and 1977, he became an advisor on press and parliamentary affairs to the Ministry of Transport. The Democrat Party ( tr, Demokrat Parti), abbreviated to DP, is a liberal conservative Turkish political party, established by Ahmet Nusret Tuna in 1983 as the True Path Party ( tr, Doğru Yol Partisi or DYP). It succeeded the historical Democrat Party and the Justice Party, two parties with similar ideologies. Their sister party is the Good Party. There have been four DYP governments since its foundation; one led by Süleyman Demirel, the other three by Turkey's first and only female Prime Minister, Tansu Çiller. The party now has two seats in the Grand National Assembly, elected in the lists of the Good Party during the 2018 general election. On 5 May 2007, it was announced that DYP and the Motherland Party (ANAP) would merge to form the Democrat Party (''Demokrat Parti''). Liberal conservatism is a political ideology combining conservative policies with liberal stances, especially on economic issues but also on social and ethical matters, representing a brand of political conservatism strongly influenced by liberalism. Turkey is a presidential republic with a multi-party system. Major parties are defined as political parties that received more than 7% of the votes in the latest general election and/or represented in parliament. 2011 Turkish General Election
General elections were held in Turkey on 12 June 2011 to elect the 550 members of Grand National Assembly. In accordance to the result of the constitutional referendum held in 2007, the elections were held four years after the previous elections in 2007 instead of five. The result was a third consecutive victory for the incumbent Justice and Development Party (AKP), with its leader Recep Tayyip Erdoğan being re-elected as Prime Minister for a third term with 49.8% of the vote and 327 MPs. This represented an increase of 3.2% since the 2007 general election and an 11.4% rise since the 2009 local elections. The politics of Turkey take place in the framework of a constitutional republic and presidential system, with various levels and branches of power. Turkey's political system is based on a separation of powers.
