Gaels
The Gaels ( ; ga, Na Gaeil ; gd, Na Gàidheil ; gv, Ny Gaeil ) are an ethnolinguistic group native to Ireland, Scotland and the Isle of Man in the British Isles. Troy Boswell (born May 23, 1966), known professionally as Leroy Troy, is an old-time banjo player from Goodlettsville, Tennessee. His banjo style is the clawhammer or frailing style, distinct from more commonly found Scruggs style banjo playing in modern bluegrass. He often performs humorous or comedy songs from the old-time music genre. Troy often uses a washboard with various sound making devices affixed to it. The "Bicycle Wreck" song is often played by Troy on the washboard. Major musical influence is attributed to Uncle Dave Macon and others taught by him. Troy debuted on the Grand Ole Opry in 1988 and was the National Old-Time Banjo Champion in 1996. Bertie Troy
Bartholomew J. Troy (1930 – 28 January 2007), known as Father Bertie Troy and later as Canon Bertie Troy, was a Roman Catholic priest and an All-Ireland Hurling Final winning manager with Cork. Troy was born in Newtownshandrum, County Cork in 1930, the son of Ellen (née Flannery) and Richard Troy, He was educated and the local national school and later at St Colman’s College in Fermoy. While he studied here Troy became involved in Gaelic games, particularly the college hurling team. He was a member of the college team that won their first Dr Harty Cup title in 1948. Troy later studied for the priesthood in Maynooth and was ordained for the Diocese of Cloyne in 1955 by Archbishop McQuaid in Dublin. Patrick Laurence Troy (17 January 1908 – 19 April 1978) was an Australian trade unionist and communist activist. Life Troy was born in South Melbourne to Irish marine officer Patrick William Troy and Hilda Winifred, ''née'' Ainsworth. The Troys moved to Fremantle, Western Australia, during World War I, and Paddy attended the local Christian Brothers' College. He left school in 1921 to work in various kinds of manual labour until he became a seaman in the State Shipping Service in 1924. The family moved to Geraldton in 1926, where Troy began to take responsibility for the family's welfare as his father's health declined. The Great Depression was a challenging time for Troy, who spent long periods unemployed with only casual work to support his family. Michael Francis "Frank" Troy (13 October 1877 – 7 January 1953) was an Australian politician who served in the Legislative Assembly of Western Australia from 1904 to 1939. John Weir Troy (October 31, 1868 — May 2, 1942) was an American Democratic politician who was the Governor of Alaska Territory from 1933 to 1939. He was born in Dungeness, Washington and died in Juneau, Alaska. John Troy began his professional career in journalism, starting as a newspaper reporter in Port Townsend, Washington, shortly after graduating from high school there. He would publish newspapers in Washington and Alaska between 1891 and 1914. He was the editor of ''Alaska-Yukon Magazine'' from 1911 to 1912. John Robert Troy (born 23 September 1941) was an Australian politician, and a member of the Western Australian Legislative Assembly from 1977 until 1980 representing the seat of Fremantle. Biography Dr Troy was born in Beaconsfield, an inner suburb of Fremantle, Western Australia, to Paddy Troy, a seaman, union secretary and state leader of the Communist Party of Australia, and Mabel (née Neilson). He was educated at East Fremantle Primary School and at Fremantle Boys' School before commencing his studies at the University of Western Australia. Daniel P. Troy (born June 6, 1948) is an Ohio politician from Lake County, Ohio. In 2020, he was elected to the Ohio House of Representatives, having previously served seven terms in the House, interspersed with several terms as Commissioner for Lake County, Ohio. William Troy (Medal Of Honor)
William Troy (1848 – March 8, 1907) entered service in the US Navy from Massachusetts as a United States Navy sailor. For bravery in action during the 1871 Korean Expedition he received the Medal of Honor on June 11, 1871. He was part of the party that rescued the mortally wounded Hugh McKee at Citadel Korea and was himself wounded and specifically commended by the Lieutenant. Originally buried at the Stockton State Hospital Cemetery, his remains were moved to the San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery (Section M-1, Grave 53) in Santa Nella Village, Merced County, California.
