Trox Scaber
''Trox scaber'' is a beetle of the family Trogidae. The 5 to 8 mm long insect is found worldwide, including in Europe, and lives in bird nests.Norman H. Joy, 1932 ''A Practical Handbook of British Beetles'' The elytra and pronotum are roughly sculptured, and there are bristly scales on the elytral ridges. The larvae develop in tawny owl and other owl nests but also in the hollow tree nests of jackdaw, woodpecker and others. They feed mainly on small dry carcasses, especially when dry. Name and classification ''Trox scaber'' was previously put in the Scarabaeidae because of the similarity of its antennae to that of members of this family. The genus ''Trox'' has 46 species throughout the world. In Europe, there are 21 species, all belonging to the subgenus ''Trox''. There are about 8 in Central Europe. Des Helmore
Desmond W. Helmore (born 1940) is a New Zealand artist and illustrator, known both for his fine art and for his scientific work depicting insects, not least illustrating the New Zealand Arthropod Collection. One of the country's most noted and prolific biological illustrators, over 1000 of his illustrations of insects were published in research papers from 1976 to 2006. Life and education Helmore was born in Takapau, Hawke's Bay Region, Hawkes Bay, New Zealand, and lived there on a farm until age 12. Clypeus (arthropod Anatomy)
The clypeus is one of the sclerites that make up the face of an arthropod. In insects, the clypeus delimits the lower margin of the face, with the labrum articulated along the ventral margin of the clypeus. The mandibles bracket the labrum, but do not touch the clypeus. The dorsal margin of the clypeus is below the antennal sockets. The clypeus is often well-defined by sulci ("grooves") along its lateral and dorsal margins, and is most commonly rectangular or trapezoidal in overall shape. Klaus Koch
Klaus Koch (October 4, 1926 – March 28, 2019) was an Old Testament scholar. Koch first studied in the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz and later at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen. He did his doctoral dissertation at the Ruprecht Karl University of Heidelberg under Gerhard von Rad. Later, Koch became a Pastor in the Lutheran Church in Prießnitz. He began his teaching career as a professor at the University of Kiel. He is Professor Emeritus of Old Testament and History of the Ancient near East Religions at the University of Hamburg, Germany. Koch has identified Martin Noth and Gerhard von Rad as the Fathers of Redaction Criticism in Old Testament Studies. Carl Gustav Calwer (11 November 1821, Stuttgart — 19 August 1874, Mineralbad Berg) was a German entomologist who specialised in Coleoptera. Telson
The telson () is the posterior-most division of the body of an arthropod. In arthropods, the maxillae (singular maxilla) are paired structures present on the head as mouthparts in members of the clade Mandibulata, used for tasting and manipulating food. Insects have mouthparts that may vary greatly across insect species, as they are adapted to particular modes of feeding. The earliest insects had chewing mouthparts.
