Troop is an American Contemporary R&B, R&B group from Pasadena, California, United States. The group has had three number-one singles and ten top-ten singles on the ''Billboard'' R&B Singles chart. They have also completed five albums, which include three certified gold and one certified platinum album. TROOP is an acronym for "Total Respect of Other People". The group is most notable for a series of number-one R&B hits, including popular cover songs, cover versions of the songs "All I Do Is Think of You" and "Sweet November (song), Sweet November", originally performed by musical acts the Jackson 5 and the Deele, respectively. They also had a number-one hit with the original song "Spread My Wings". Tony Haynes (American Musician)
Tony Haynes is an American lyricist, songwriter, poet, music publisher, producer and author. Over the last four decades he has written lyrics to melodies composed by the biggest names in R&B and pop music. He has also authored children's books and produced children's music based on some of the most successful animated characters. Lyricist and songwriter He began his professional career in 1981 writing songs with Al McKay and David Bryant. McKay had recently left Earth, Wind & Fire. He signed Haynes to a co-publishing deal with Steelchest Music and introduced him to David Bryant. Together they wrote "Send A Little Love" for The Spinners, "Sayonara" for A Taste of Honey and "Lovers" and "You Owe It All To Love" for Finis Henderson. With Erich Bulling, Haynes also wrote songs for Japanese recording artists Naoko Kawai and Hiromi Iwasaki. Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums is a music chart published weekly by '' Billboard'' magazine that ranks R&B and hip hop albums based on sales in the United States and is compiled by Nielsen SoundScan. The chart debuted as Hot R&B LPs in the issue dated January 30, 1965 in an effort by the magazine to further expand into the field of rhythm and blues music. It then went through several name changes, being known as Soul LPs in the 1970s and Top Black Albums in the 1980s, before returning to the R&B identification in 1990 and affixing a hip hop designation in 1999 to reflect the latter's growing sales and relationship to R&B during the decade. LeVert was an American R&B vocal group from Cleveland, Ohio, United States. Switch is an American R&B/funk band that found fame recording for the Gordy label in the late 1970s, releasing hit songs such as "There'll Never Be", "I Call Your Name", and "Love Over & Over Again". Switch influenced bands such as DeBarge, which featured the siblings of Switch band members Bobby and Tommy DeBarge. New Jack Swing
New jack swing, new jack, or swingbeat is a fusion genre of the rhythms and production techniques of hip hop and dance-pop, and the urban contemporary sound of R&B. Spearheaded by producers Teddy Riley and Bernard Belle, new jack swing was most popular from the late-1980s to early-1990s. Its influence, along with hip hop, seeped into pop culture. Merriam-Webster's online dictionary defines new jack swing as "pop music usually performed by black musicians that combines elements of jazz, funk, rap, and rhythm and blues." New jack swing took up the trend of using sampled beats and tunes, and created beats using electronic drum machines such as the then-new SP-1200 sampler and the Roland TR-808 to lay an "insistent beat under light melody lines and clearly enunciated vocals." The Roland TR-808 was sampled to create distinctive, syncopated, swung rhythms, with its snare sound being especially prominent. ''Attitude'' is the second album by new jack swing group Troop released by Atlantic Records on October 13, 1989. The album features numerous debuts by a few well known musicians. The songs "My Music" and "I Will Always Love You" marked the debut of record producer Dallas Austin, who co-produced the songs with his mentor Joyce "Fenderella" Irby - a former member of the band Klymaxx. A then-unknown Trent Reznor appeared as one of the recording engineers on the Gerald Levert produced songs "That's My Attitude" and "For You". The video version of the single "Spread My Wings" was the one of the first songs remixed by hip hop producer Clark Kent. ''Attitude'' was the highest-charting album from Troop, peaking within the Top 5 on the Top R&B Albums chart and received a gold certification.
