Triosk
Triosk was an experimental jazz, electronica band, which formed in 2001 by Adrian Klumpes on piano, rhodes and sampler; Laurence Pike on drums, percussion and programming, and Ben "Donny" Waples on electric and acoustic bass. They disbanded in 2007. Though coming from a jazz foundation, their sound has strong electronica elements as well as influences from the textures of musique concrète, with their use of loops of hisses and crackles. They released three albums: ''1+3+1'' in November 2003 (a collaboration with German electronic artist, Jan Jelinek, on Berlin label ~scape); ''Moment Returns'' (11 October 2004) and ''The Headlight Serenade'' (12 June 2006), both on The Leaf Label. Adrian John Lim-Klumpes (born Adrian John Klumpes) is an Australian multi-instrumentalist who released his solo debut album, ''Be Still'', in October 2006 on The Leaf Label. Klumpes was a member of electronic jazz Nu jazz (also known as jazztronica, or future jazz) is a genre of jazz and electronic music. Laurence Pike
Laurence Pike is an Australian drummer and electronic musician. He studied at Sydney Conservatorium of Music under Mike Nock. Pike has specialised in improvised music, " ntegratingeverything from jazz to psych to ambient to ... experimental electronic". Pike is a member of PVT (formerly Pivot) and Szun Waves (with Luke Abbott, and Jack Wyllie of Portico Quartet), a former member of Triosk, and released his debut solo album ''Distant Early Warning'' on The Leaf Label on 30 March 2018. The album was recorded on a drum kit and sampler in one day, and was described by All About Jazz as "a technological and spiritual jazz suite" and "a work of intense serenity". The Leaf Label
The Leaf Label is a British independent record label based in Yorkshire, England. Initially an electronic music label, releasing mainly instrumental music, the company's approach now features artists spanning jazz and post-punk. History The Leaf Label was created in late 1994 by Tony Morley; at that time, press officer at 4AD in London, along with his friend Julian Carrera, then working for music press company Stone Immaculate. The pair ran the label as a hobby until the end of 1996, during which time they released a series of eight 12" singles, of mainly electronic music. The label debuted in early 1995 with a 12" release by Boymerang, a project by Graham Sutton of the post-rock band Bark Psychosis, and early releases also included two volumes of the 'Invisible Soundtracks' series of EPs. Donny Benét (born Ben Waples) is an Australian recording artist, based in Sydney. He is notable for his anachronistic musical style, borrowing heavily from 80s post-disco sounds. In 2011, he released his debut studio album ''Don't Hold Back'' through indie label Rice is Nice (Record Label), Rice is Nice. His fifth studio album, ''Mr Experience'', reached #26 on the ARIA Charts in May 2020. The AIR Awards of 2007 is the second annual Australian Independent Record Labels Association Music Awards (generally known as the AIR Awards) and was an award ceremony at Toff of the Town, in Melbourne, Australia on 10 December 2007 to honour outstanding achievements in sales by Australian independent artists. Jazz
Jazz is a music genre that originated in the African-American communities of New Orleans, Louisiana in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, with its roots in blues and ragtime. Since the 1920s Jazz Age, it has been recognized as a major form of musical expression in traditional and popular music. PVT (disemvoweling of ''pivot'') is an experimental band based between London and Sydney. Band members are Richard Pike, Laurence Pike and Dave Miller. Brothers Richard and Laurence grew up in Sydney, later meeting Dave Miller who originally comes from Perth, Australia. The band have released five albums. History PVT was formed as Pivot in Sydney in 1999 by brothers Richard Pike and Laurence Pike. He then began using the broken filter to create music, launching his musical career. Flanger
Flanging is an audio effect produced by mixing two identical signals together, one signal delayed by a small and (usually) gradually changing period, usually smaller than 20 milliseconds. This produces a swept comb filter effect: peaks and notches are produced in the resulting frequency spectrum, related to each other in a linear harmonic series. Varying the time delay causes these to sweep up and down the frequency spectrum. A flanger is an effects unit that creates this effect. Part of the output signal is usually fed back to the input (a "re-circulating delay line"), producing a resonance effect which further enhances the intensity of the peaks and troughs. The phase of the fed-back signal is sometimes inverted, producing another variation on the flanger sound.
