Trikala Football Club ( el, ΠΑΕ Τρίκαλα), also known as AO Trikala ( el, ΑΟ Τρίκαλα), is a Greek professional Football in Greece, football club based in the city of Trikala, in central Greece. The club currently competes in the Gamma Ethniki, the third tier of Greek football league system, Greek football. History Formation The club was formed in 1963 from the merger of two rival Trikala football clubs, Achilleas of Trikala and Α.Ε.Τ. The history of these original clubs can be traced back to the early 1920s when football in the town was starting to rise. The merger provided an optimistic spirit for the fans of the team since the town's best teams had been merged. Consequently, it proved to be successful as within a year, A.O.T. had won promotion to the Greek first division. Trikala Municipal Stadium
The Trikala Municipal Stadium (, ''Dimotiko Stadio Trikalon'') is a sports stadium in Trikala, Greece. It is used for football (soccer), football matches of the local team Trikala F.C. and Athletics (sport), athletics events. The stadium frequently serves as a neutral venue for penalised teams and has hosted games between major Greek Clubs in the past. It has also served as the venue for the Athens Grand Prix Tsiklitiria as well as hosted concerts. The stadium has a horse shoe shaped stand with a capacity of 15,000 (seated) and was built in 1950 as a national stadium and one of the biggest in the country at the time. A.O. 2014–15 Gamma Ethniki
The 2014–15 Gamma Ethniki was the 32nd season since the official establishment of the third tier of Greek football in 1983. It started on 14 September 2014 and ended on 17 May 2015. 61 teams were separated into four groups, according to geographical criteria. Thermaikos and A.O. 2019–20 Football League (Greece)
The 2019–20 Football League Greece was the first season as a third-tier professional league of the Greek football league system since its restructuring and the ninth season under the name Football League after previously being known as ''Beta Ethniki''. This year the participating teams were reduced from 16 to 14. On 2 June 2020, the season was officially ended due to the COVID-19 pandemic with Trikala announced as champions. Teams * Niki Volos and Kalamata were accepted to play in the Football League by decision of the HFF, taking the place of Iraklis and Nestos Chrysoupoli, who withdrew its participation. * Trikala placed 12th in the 2018–19 Football League, thus becoming ineligible to play in the Super League 2, the country's newly founded Second Division. The Super League Greece 1 ( el, Ελληνική Σούπερ Λιγκ 1), or Super League 1, is the highest professional association football league in Greece. The league was formed on 16 July 2006 and replaced ''Alpha Ethniki'' at the top of the Greek football league system. It consists of 14 teams and runs from August to May, with teams playing 26 games.
