Trier-Land
Trier-Land is a ''Verbandsgemeinde'' ("collective municipality") in the Trier-Saarburg district, in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. It is situated on the border with Luxembourg, north and west of Trier. The seat of the municipality is in Trier, itself not part of the municipality. Trier-Saarburg
Trier-Saarburg (; lb, Landkrees Tréier-Saarburg ) is a district in the west of Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. Neighboring districts are (from the north and clockwise) Bitburg-Prüm, Bernkastel-Wittlich, Birkenfeld, Sankt Wendel (Saarland), and Merzig-Wadern (Saarland). To the west it borders Luxembourg. The district-free city Trier is surrounded by the district. History The district was created in 1969 by merging the previous districts Trier and Saarburg. Geography The main river in the district is the Moselle. The area between its tributaries, the Ruwer and the Saar, is also well known as one of the prime wine regions of Germany. Trier
Trier ( , ; lb, Tréier ), formerly known in English as Trèves ( ;) and Triers (see also names in other languages), is a city on the banks of the Moselle in Germany. It lies in a valley between low vine-covered hills of red sandstone in the west of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate, near the border with Luxembourg and within the important Moselle wine region. Founded by the Celts in the late 4th century BC as ''Treuorum'' and conquered 300 years later by the Romans, who renamed it ''Augusta Treverorum'' ("The City of Augustus among the Treveri"), Trier is considered Germany's oldest city. Aach, Rhineland-Palatinate
Aach () is a municipality in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate. It is part of Trier-Land, a ''Verbandsgemeinde''. History The settlement of Aach dates to the Bronze Age. Later there also was a settlement of the Roman Empire. The current municipality was first mentioned in the year 953 under its Latin name ''Aquacuum''. Despite being situated so close to the city of Trier, it was not part of the Archbishopric of Trier. Belonging to the Benedictine monastery St. Irminen, it was '' reichsfrei''. This prompted many Jews to settle in Aach after they were expelled from Trier in the 16th century. During the time of the Napoleonic Wars Aach was—according to the Treaty of Lunéville 1802—a part of France. Kordel is a municipality in the Trier-Saarburg district, in Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany. It is home to the ruins of Ramstein Castle.
