Tranmere Rovers Ladies Football Club are an English team founded in 1990, based in the Wirral, and affiliated with Tranmere Rovers F.C. Between 1996 and 2004 they competed in the FA Premier League National Division, then the top tier of the English women's football pyramid. They are currently members of the and play their home games at the Ellesmere Port Sports Village. History Tranmere Rovers Ladies were formed in 1990 named by Jayne Lewis indeed Jayne Lewis got the original team together and entered of the North West Regional League with Steve Williams as manager. Wirral Peninsula
Wirral (; ), known locally as The Wirral, is a peninsula in North West England. The roughly rectangular peninsula is about long and wide and is bounded by the River Dee to the west (forming the boundary with Wales), the River Mersey to the east, and the Irish Sea to the north. Football League First Division
The Football League First Division was a division of the Football League in England from 1888 until 2004. It was the top division in the English football league system from the season 1888–89 until 1991–92, a century in which the First Division's winning club became English men's football champions. The First Division contained between 12 and 24 clubs, playing each other home and away in a double round robin. The competition was based on two points for a win from 1888 until the increase to three points for a win in 1981. Tina Nordlund
Tina Cecilia Elisabeth Nordlund (born 19 March 1977) is a Swedish football coach and former player, most recently an assistant coach at Umeå IK. She is one of the most well known Swedish female footballers. In November 2000, she was awarded the Diamantbollen, an annual award made to the best female player in Sweden, during the Swedish Soccer Awards, and during her speech she expressed her thoughts that women's soccer received too little media publicity. She played for Alnö IF, Sundsvalls DFF and Umeå IK. She retired from playing football aged 25 after suffering from anorexia nervosa. Susan Jane Smith (born 24 November 1979) is a former English international footballer who last played for Doncaster Rovers Belles and England. She is an experienced left–sided winger or forward. Club career Smith played for Tranmere Rovers since she was a teenager, but after years of fielding several offers from top clubs around the country, she signed on for Leeds United (known as Leeds Carnegie from 2008 until 2010) in the summer of 2002. Following the failure of Leeds' bid to join the FA WSL, Smith signed for Lincoln Ladies in August 2010. In December 2011 Smith joined Doncaster Rovers Belles, who had tried to sign her on two previous occasions. Katie Williams (footballer)
Katie Williams (born 24 May 1984) is a former footballer who played for the Welsh national team and Liverpool. Williams played as a central defender and accumulated twenty caps for Wales. Club career Williams began her career at home-town club Bangor City, before moving on to Tranmere Rovers and Blackburn Rovers. She spent the 2008 off-season in the American W-League with the Fredericksburg Lady Gunners but suffered a damaged cruciate ligament. Williams also played for Caernarfon Town in the North Wales Women's Football League in 2015/2016 season. On her recovery she joined Liverpool. In February 2011 Williams remained registered to Liverpool, but she was not included in the club's 2011 FA WSL squad. International career Williams won six caps for Wales at U19 level. Josephine Julia Fletcher (born 31 December 1980) is an English footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Watford. She played at full international level for England. She hails from Malpas, Cheshire and attended Bishop Heber High School. Club career Fletcher joined Tranmere Rovers Ladies as an under–18 player. In summer 1998 she left FA Women's Premier League champions Everton for local rivals Liverpool. In sport, a cap is a player's appearance in a game at international level. The term dates from the practice in the United Kingdom of awarding a cap to every player in an international match of rugby football and association football. In the early days of football, the concept of each team wearing a set of matching shirts had not been universally adopted, so each side would distinguish itself from the other by wearing a specific sort of cap. An early illustration of the first international football match between Scotland and England in 1872 shows the Scottish players wearing cowls, and the English wearing a variety of school caps.
