__NOTOC__ The Tralee and Dingle Light Railway and Tramway was a , narrow gauge railway running between Tralee and Dingle, with a branch from Castlegregory Junction to Castlegregory, in County Kerry on the west coast of Ireland. It operated between 1891 and 1953; the Castlegregory branch closed shortly prior to the outbreak of the Second World War. It was one of the most westerly railway lines in Europe, but the terminus of the Valentia Harbour branch at 10.277785° was further west. Early years The railway was built as cheaply as possible, largely following adjacent roads, resulting in some very tight curves and severe gradients. The railway opened on 31 March 1891, but from the start income failed to cover operating expenses. The Lartigue Monorail system was developed by the French engineer Charles Lartigue (1834–1907). He further developed a horse drawn monorail system, which had been invented by Henry Robinson Palmer in 1821. Lartigue had seen camels in Algeria carrying heavy loads balanced in panniers on their backs. This inspired him to design a new type of railway. Instead of the conventional two parallel rails on the ground, it had a single rail sitting above the sand and held at waist height on A-shaped trestles. The carriages sat astride the trestles like panniers. A line long was built in 1895 between Feurs and Panissières, in the French département of Loire. However this line never opened after it failed certification testing in both 1895 and 1896. The track and equipment were scrapped in 1902. Tralee and Dingle Light Railway 7 and 8 were two locomotives manufactured by Kerr, Stuart and Company in 1902 and 1903 for the Tralee and Dingle Light Railway. Around the turn of the 20th century the Tralee and Dingle Railway saw an increase in its traffic. On this railway cattle were far more important than passengers so the directors began looking for extra motive power. Taking into account that the line had only light trackwork, heavier locomotives were out of the question without changes to the wheel arrangement, although extra power could be made available with changes to the cylinders or boiler tubework to increase the heating surface and so the tractive effort. These two locomotives, built by Kerr Stuart at their California Works, Stoke-on-Trent, provided the extra motive power and retained the wheel arrangement. Tralee and Dingle Light Railway 5 is a locomotive manufactured by the Hunslet Engine Company in 1892 for the Tralee and Dingle Light Railway. It is difficult to understand why the Tralee and Dingle acquired this particular locomotive. The Tralee and Dingle Light Railway (TDLR) locomotives 1, 2, 3, 6, and 8 were locomotives manufactured by the Hunslet Engine Company of Leeds, England between 1889 and 1910. The Blennerville Windmill is a 21.30 m high, stone, reefing stage, windmill in Blennerville, Co. Kerry, Ireland. The mill has five floors, ground floor, intermediate floor, grinding floor, stone floor and cap floor.
