Trail Guide
''Trail Guide'' is a 1952 American Western (genre), western film directed by Lesley Selander and starring Tim Holt, Richard Martin (actor), Richard Martin and Linda Douglas . Distributed by RKO Pictures, it lost $20,000. Plot In the Old West, Tim Holt and his sidekick, Chito Rafferty, are trail guides for a group of homesteaders. As the homesteaders near their destination, Tim and Chito depart for the nearby town of Silver Springs to look for jobs as cowhands. En route, they are shot at by cattle rancher Kenny Masters who, along with his sister, Peg Masters, tells them homesteaders are not welcome. Tim and Chito deny they are homesteaders. Arriving in town, Tim looks for work while Chito flirts with a saloon girl who happens to be Kenny's girlfriend. Saloon owner, Regan, breaks up a fight between Kenny and Chito; and, after Chito departs, it is revealed Kenny hired Regan to steal the homesteaders' claims to prevent them from settling in the area. Herman Schlom
Herman Schlom (1904–1983) was a film producer who first received film credit as an assistant director for ''Dracula (1931 English-language film), Dracula'' in 1931. He worked primarily for Republic Pictures then RKO Pictures. Some of Schlom's notable films, as a producer, include the crime thrillers ''The Devil Thumbs a Ride'' (1947), ''Born to Kill (1947 film), Born to Kill'' (1947), ''Dick Tracy Meets Gruesome'' (1947) and ''Follow Me Quietly'' (1949). He was the producer of a number of Tim Holt westerns. According to Richard Martin "“Herman was one of RKO's best B producers. He could get a lot of quality into a picture for a few dollars. RKO Radio Pictures Inc., commonly known as RKO Pictures or simply RKO, was an American film production and distribution company, one of the "Big Five" film studios of Hollywood's Golden Age. The business was formed after the Keith-Albee-Orpheum (KAO) theater chain and Joseph P. Kennedy's Film Booking Offices of America (FBO) studio were brought together under the control of the Radio Corporation of America (RCA) in October 1928. Kenneth MacDonald (American Actor)
Kenneth MacDonald (born Kenneth Dollins; September 8, 1901 – May 5, 1972) was an American film actor. Born in Portland, Indiana, MacDonald made more than 220 film and television appearances between 1931 and 1970. His name is sometimes seen as Kenneth McDonald. Career MacDonald began his career as a stage actor. In 1923 he appeared in his first feature film, ''Slow as Lightning''. He came to Hollywood in the early 1930s, where he played small roles in low-budget, independent productions. In 1939 Kenneth MacDonald was signed by Columbia Pictures for the studio's Charles Starrett westerns. MacDonald perfected a cool, debonair demeanor, which usually masked an evil side as a con man, outlaw, or thief. John Pickard (American Actor)
John M. Pickard (June 25, 1913 – August 4, 1993) was an American actor who appeared primarily in television westerns. Early life Pickard was born in Lascassas in Rutherford County, near Murfreesboro in Middle Tennessee. He graduated from the Nashville Conservatory in Nashville, Tennessee. His first acting roles were small parts in films, mostly uncredited, beginning in 1936 as a dueling soldier in the picture '' Mary of Scotland'', based on the 16th century queen, Mary of Scotland. From 1942 to 1946, Pickard served in the United States Navy, having been the model for naval recruitment posters during World War II. Career Pickard returned to acting after the war and appeared in supporting roles in scores of westerns and action dramas before landing the starring role in the syndicated television series, '' Boots and Saddles'', set on an Arizona fort in the late 19th century. Frank Reppy Wilcox (March 13, 1907 – March 3, 1974) was an American actor. He appeared in numerous films and television series, as well as Broadway plays. Background Wilcox was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Roger V. Wilcox. He was born in De Soto, Missouri, but the family moved to Atchison, Kansas. Wilcox worked in Kansas City as an oil company's sales manager. Acting career Wilcox joined the Pasadena Community Playhouse. By December 1924, he headed the Frank Wilcox Company, which produced plays in venues that included the Lyceum in Baltimore. In 1927, he became a member of The Lambs Club.
