Trade River
The Trade River is a tributary of the St. Croix River in northwestern Wisconsin in the United States. In its history, it has been known by the names "Atanwa" or "Ottoway" River, both of which are Anglicized versions of an Ojibwe language word meaning "trade" (see Ottawa). Beneath the mouth of the Trade River, the St. Croix River was once known as the Grave-marker River. The Trade River begins in the Straight Lake Tunnel Channel Woods in northern Polk County, Wisconsin, and flows northward before bending westward to meet the South Fork a few miles south of Frederic. The South Fork of the Trade River begins in wetlands north of Luck and flows northward, roughly parallel to State Highway 35, until it meets the main branch. Luck, Wisconsin
Luck is a village in Polk County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,119 at the 2010 census. History Luck was originally two settlements, Luck on Big Butternut Lake, and West Denmark further west, founded by Danish immigrants in 1869 on the north and west shores of Little Butternut Lake and extending out for a few miles. The two settlements knew it was impractical to remain separate entities, but disagreed about which would be the center of town. The railroad settled the issue when it laid tracks near the eastern settlement. Luck was not incorporated until 1905, several years later than most surrounding villages. Trade Lake is a town in Burnett County in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The population was 823 in the 2010 census. The unincorporated communities of Four Corners and Trade Lake are located in the town. The unincorporated community of Pole Cat Crossing is also located partially in the town. Geography The town of Trade Lake is located in southwestern Burnett County, with Polk County along the town's southern and eastern borders. Pine barrens, pine plains, sand plains, or pineland areas occur throughout the U.S. from Florida to Maine (see Atlantic coastal pine barrens) as well as the Midwest, West, and Canada and parts of Eurasia.
