Town Hall Theatre (Galway)
The Town Hall Theatre ( ga, Amharclann Halla na Cathrach) is a theatre in Galway, Ireland. History The building which houses the Town Hall Theatre was erected in the 1820s and served first as a courthouse and later as a town hall. In the 1950s, the building was converted into a cinema and was used for film screenings until it fell into disrepair in the 1990s. Galway Corporation (now Galway City Council), with the assistance of a grant from the Department of Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht, undertook a major refurbishment of the building between 1993–95 and it reopened as a state of the art, 393-seat Municipal Theatre in October 14th 1995 with a production of "Chess" by the Patrician Musical Society. The venue attracts audiences in excess of 100,000 annually (close to 2 million since being officially re-opened on 1st February 1996) making it the most successful theatre of its size in Ireland. Galway Railway Station
Galway (Ceannt) railway station (''Ceannt Station'' / ''Stáisiún Cheannt'') serves the city of Galway in County Galway. The station itself is located in the centre of the city in Eyre Square. It is the terminus station for the Dublin Heuston railway station, Dublin to Galway intercity service and the Limerick to Galway and Athenry to Galway commuter services. Description There are two platforms at Galway Ceannt; Platform 1 and Platform 2. Platform 2 can only be reached via Platform 1. The Cúirt International Festival of Literature (pronounced ) is an annual literary festival held since 1985 in Galway in Ireland. The Irish language word ''cúirt'' means "court". The festival consists of a variety of events taking place over the course of a week each April with attendances and contributions from Irish and international writers. It includes readings of poetry and fiction, discussions, poetry slams, book launches, masterclasses, spoken and musical performances, multimedia events, theatre, and visual art. The Galway International Arts Festival (GIAF), founded in 1978, is a cultural organization that produces an annual arts festival in Galway, Ireland. It also produces new work that tours nationally and internationally, in addition to presenting the discussion forum, "First Thought Talks". The festival maintains a non-profit status.
