Panipat
Panipat () is a historic city in Haryana, India. It is 95 km north of Delhi and 169 km south of Chandigarh on List of National Highways in India, NH-1. The three major battles fought in First Battle of Panipat, 1526, Second Battle of Panipat, 1556 and Third Battle of Panipat, 1761 took place near the city. Over 1400 Indus Valley civilisation sites have been discovered, of which 925 sites are in India and 475 sites in Pakistan, while some sites in Afghanistan are believed to be trading colonies. Haryana State Directorate of Archaeology & Museums is a ministry and department of the Government of Haryana in India. Description This department came into existence in 1972 after Haryana was established as a new state in 1966 within India after being separated from Punjab. This was established as a cell under the education department in 1969, which was upgraded to a separate department in 1972.
