Touch Me (49ers Song)
"Touch Me" is a 1989 Italo house song by Italian group 49ers. Produced by Gianfranco Bortolotti, it was released on 4 December 1989 as the third single from their debut album, '' 49ers'' (1990). It reached number three on the UK Singles Chart and was a top 10 hit in at least 10 other countries in Europe. Outside Europe, it was the first of four hits on the US ''Billboard'' Hot Dance Club Play chart for 49ers. It samples Aretha Franklin's "Rock-A-Lott" and Alisha Warren's "Touch Me". Critical reception AllMusic editor Alex Henderson felt that Italian producer Gianfranco Bortolotti "sees to it that vocal personality is a prime ingredient of such exuberant offerings" as "Touch Me". Bill Coleman from ''Billboard'' described the song as a "soulful "Ride On Time"-style workout" and noted that "strong production and a contagious chorus render track satisfying." 49ers (band)
49ers were an Italian house and Eurodance act, featuring producers and DJs Gianfranco Bortolotti, Luca Cittadini, Diego Leoni and Pieradis Rossini with vocalist Ann-Marie Smith. They were named after the San Francisco 49ers American football team, and because former vocalist Dawn Mitchell was the 49th vocalist to audition. In 1990, two of their songs reached number-one on the US ''Billboard'' Hot Dance Club Play chart; " Touch Me" and " Don't You Love Me". Background Formation and debut album The project was formed in 1988, by the producer Gianfranco Bortolotti. The debut single, "Die Walküre", was based on a vocal from Freeez's "I.O.U." (although the woman in the video is Josy Gil Persia) and reached #20 on the French Singles Chart. It was followed by "Shadows" one year later. After this, the group recruited Dawn Mitchell to front the act. The Dutch Top 40 ( nl, Nederlandse Top 40) is a weekly music chart compiled by ''Stichting Nederlandse Top 40''. It started as a radio program titled "Veronica Top 40", on the offshore station Radio Veronica in 1965. It remained "The Veronica Top 40" until 1974, when the station was forced to stop broadcasting.
