Ö3 Austria Top 40 is the official Austrian singles chart, as well as the radio show which presents it, aired Tuesdays on Hitradio Ö3. The show presents the Austrian singles, ringtones and downloads chart. It premiered on 26 November 1968 as ''Disc Parade'' and was presented by Ernst Grissemann. The show has had other names and other presenters, as detailed below. The weekly number-ones are released by Musikmarkt and GoTV. History From 1980 to 7 January 1990, the mixed listening and sales parade Hit wähl mit was broadcast on Sunday evening, starting with an hour of 15 chart placements and six new releases. A record chart, in the music industry, also called a music chart, is a ranking of recorded music according to certain criteria during a given period. Many different criteria are used in worldwide charts, often in combination. These include record sales, the amount of radio airplay, the number of downloads, and the amount of streaming activity. Hitradio Ö3
Hitradio Ö3 is one of the nationwide radio stations of Austria's public broadcaster ORF. The format focuses on contemporary hit radio, specialising pop music and chart hits from the 1980s to the present. Ö3 has the biggest audience share by far (averaging 31%) of all Austrian radio stations. History The station was launched by the ORF broadcaster on 1 October 1967 to a new numbered system, together with the classical music station Österreich 1 and the local radios of the Ö2 group, following a 1964 national referendum against the alignment of the public broadcasting service on the Austrian political ''Proporz'' system. The journalist and radio host Ernst Grissemann was commissioned to build up an entertainment station; he was supported by Frank Elstner, who had worked for Radio Luxembourg, and André Heller presenting the ''Musicbox'' avant-garde music journal. ''Musikmarkt'' was a magazine of the music industry in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, which is based in Munich. ''Die Welt'', a German newspaper, described the magazine as the music industry’s thermometer. History and profile ''Musikmarkt'' was established by publisher Josef Keller Verlag in 1959. Uwe Lencher served as the editor-in-chief of the magazine for twenty-three years from 1973 to his death in April 1996. The magazine had its headquarters in Munich. The magazine was started as a bi-monthly publication. Then it was published weekly until 2014 when its frequency was switched to monthly. GoTV (Austrian Channel)
GoTV (stylized as gotv) was a 24-hour music and animation channel based in Vienna, Austria. The channel launched on 1 October 2002. The channel targets audiences in Austria, but is also widely available throughout Europe. On May 18, 2022 the owners of gotv confirmed the channel will close on June 1, 2022. The last music video on the channel was Daft Punk’s ‘One More Time’. Background * Prior to the channels launch, a local music channel TIV ("True Image Vision") broadcast in 1996 on UPC Telekabel in Vienna. With its success, Go TV CEO Thomas Maderbacher (member of Austrian band The Wiener) became a majority stakeholder in ET Multimedia and helped to launch Go TV on 1 October 2002. Lisa Jane Stansfield (born 11 April 1966) is an English singer, songwriter, and actress. Her career began in 1980 when she won the singing competition ''Search for a Star''. The GfK Entertainment charts are the official music charts in Germany and are gathered and published by GfK Entertainment (formerly Media Control and Media Control GfK International), a subsidiary of GfK, on behalf of Bundesverband Musikindustrie. GfK Entertainment is the provider of weekly Top 100 single and album charts, as well as various other chart formats for genres like compilations, jazz, classical music, schlager, hip hop, dance, comedy, and music videos. Following a lawsuit in March 2014 by Media Control AG, Media Control® GfK International had to change its name. Dissemination of the charts is conducted by various media outlets, some of which include MTV music channel, and the Swiss charts website.
