Total Science
Total Science is the stage name of drum and bass producers Jason Greenhalgh and Paul Smith. The pair first met in 1987, both living on Blackbird Leys estate in Oxford, England and brought together through a mutual love of hip hop. Distracted by the arrival of hardcore in the early nineties, the pair's record collecting was quickly followed by DJing, and eventually production. Greenhalgh launched his career under the moniker Q Project with "Freestyle Fanatic" in 1991. In 1994, the pair started recording together under the name Funky Technicians, with "You Gotta Believe" the first in a series of records which pushed the label away from the darkside movement and toward labels like Lucky Spin, Basement, and Good Looking. After six years of recording singles for others, the pair established the CIA label in the closing months of 1997 with the help of Brillo from Timeless Recordings. A disc jockey, more commonly abbreviated as DJ, is a person who plays recorded music for an audience. Downtempo
Downtempo (or downbeat) is a broad label for electronic music that features an atmospheric sound and slower beats than would typically be found in dance music. Closely related to ambient music but with greater emphasis on rhythm, the style may be played in chillout clubs or as "warm-up or cool-down" music during a DJ set. Metalheadz is a drum and bass record label based in the United Kingdom. It was founded in 1994 by Kemistry & Storm and Goldie. History Origins Goldie's early experiences of the rave scene, especially the club ''Rage'' had a profound effect on him. Clifford Joseph Price MBE (born 19 September 1965), better known as Goldie, is a British music producer and DJ. Good Looking Records is a jungle and drum & bass record label, formed in 1991 by producer LTJ Bukem. The label specializes in jazz-influenced and atmospheric, so-called Intelligent Drum & Bass. Overview The label releases music which includes 'spacey' synthesizers driven with elements of jazz and soul, although some releases have a darker amen break style to them. The label became synonymous for its musical style and science fiction-influenced record covers, which were a trademark of the label.
