Torsten Schlüter
Torsten Schlüter (born 30 September 1959 in Hennigsdorf, East Germany) is a German painter, performance artist and author. 1981 -1986 training in architecture and completing his university degree at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. Later in 1986 he turns away from architecture and concentrates on painting. Due to his “renouncement of the predetermined academic path” the authorities make him a persona-non-grata in Weimar. The island of Hiddensee in the baltic sea is increasingly becoming his refuge. 1986-1987 odd jobs as painter of signs, carpenter's assistant, stage scene painter and tennis trainer. Creation of set and costumes for the theatre. In 1987 he starts the yearly “Kunstgarten”, an outdoor gallery, on the island Hiddensee. Hennigsdorf
Hennigsdorf () is a town in the district of Oberhavel, in Brandenburg, Germany. It is situated north-west of Berlin, just across the city border, which is formed mainly by the Havel river. History The municipality shared its borders with the former West Berlin, and so during the period 1961–1990 it was separated from it by the Berlin Wall. In 1951/2, the Havel Canal was constructed to link Hennigsdorf with Paretz, thus avoiding a passage through the reach of the River Havel, between Spandau and Potsdam, that was under the political control of West Berlin. The canal is still in use, providing a shorter route for shipping from west of Berlin to the Oder–Havel Canal and Poland. Hiddensee
Hiddensee () is a car-free island in the Baltic Sea, located west of Germany's largest island, Rügen, on the German coast. The island has about 1,000 inhabitants. It was a holiday destination for East German tourists during German Democratic Republic (GDR) times, and continues to attract tourists today. It is the location of the University of Greifswald's ornithological station. Gerhart Hauptmann and Walter Felsenstein are buried there. Name The name ''Hedinsey'' surfaces as early as the ''Prose Edda'' and the ''Gesta Danorum'' written by Saxo Grammaticus and means "Island of Hedin". The legendary Norwegian king, Hedin, was supposed to have fought here for a woman or even just for gold. Under Danish rule the name ''Hedins-Oe'' ("Hedin's Island") was common. New Forum
New Forum (german: Neues Forum) was a political movement in East Germany formed in the months leading up to the collapse of the East German state. It was founded on 9 September 1989 and was the first independent (non- National Front) political movement to be recognised by the Socialist Unity Party of Germany-led state on 8 November 1989. In February 1990 it formed Alliance 90 (Bündnis 90) with Democracy Now (Demokratie Jetzt) (DJ) and the Initiative for Peace and Human Rights (Initiative für Frieden und Menschenrechte) (IFM). The New Forum was the first countrywide political movement in the GDR outside the Protestant church. Weimar
Weimar is a city in the state of Thuringia, Germany. It is located in Central Germany between Erfurt in the west and Jena in the east, approximately southwest of Leipzig, north of Nuremberg and west of Dresden. Kulturbrauerei
The Berlin Kulturbrauerei (literally "Culture Brewery") is a building complex in Berlin, Germany. Originally built and operated as a brewery, its courtyards and unique architecture have been protected as a monument since 1974 and it is one of the few well-preserved examples of industrial architecture in Berlin dating from the end of the 19th century. It is supported by the Treuhandliegenschaftsgesellschaft (TLG) and operated commercially as a cultural centre in the Kollwitz neighborhood of the Prenzlauer Berg district ( Borough of Pankow). It provides cinemas, theatres, clubs and function rooms. It is situated close to the Eberswalder Straße U-Bahn station. Hackesche Höfe
The Hackesche Höfe ( en, Hacke's Courtyards) is a notable courtyard complex situated adjacent to the Hackescher Markt in the centre of Berlin. The complex consists of eight interconnected courtyards, accessed through a main arched entrance at number 40 Rosenthaler Straße. The complex was designed in the Jugendstil (or Art Nouveau) style by August Endell, and the first courtyard is adorned with a magnificent facade of polychrome glazed brick. The construction of this project, launched in 1906, follows a pattern of clear separation between residential areas, crafts, trade and culture, which distinguishes it from the courtyards of the 19th century. In 1909 Kurt Hiller and Jakob van Hoddis established ''Der Neue Club'' here which hosted such events as the literary evenings they called the ''Neopathetisches Cabaret'' (Neo-pathetic Cabaret).
