Torralbasia
''Torralbasia'' is a monotypic genus of flowering plants belonging to the family Celastraceae. It only contains the one known species, Torralbasia cuneifolia (C.Wright ex A.Gray) Krug & Urb. It is native to the Caribbean and is found in the countries of Cuba, Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico. The genus name of ''Torralbasia'' is in honour of José Ildefonso Torralbas (1842–1903), Cuban botanist and agronomist; director of the university botanical museum in Havana and professor at the university. The Latin specific epithet of ''cuneifolia'' means wedge-shaped, and is derived from ''cuneate''. Both the genus and the species were first described and published in D.H.Segui, Fl. Med. Tox. Cuba on page 60 in 1900. Celastraceae
The Celastraceae (staff-vine or bittersweet) are a family of 97 genera and 1,350 species of herbs, vines, shrubs and small trees, belonging to the order Celastrales. The great majority of the genera are tropical, with only ''Celastrus'' (the staff vines), ''Euonymus'' (the spindles) and ''Maytenus'' widespread in temperate climates, and ''Parnassia'' (bog-stars) found in alpine and arctic climates. Of the 97 currently recognized genera of the family Celastraceae, 19 are native to Madagascar and these include at least 57 currently recognized species. Six of these 19 genera ('' Brexiella'', '' Evonymopsis'', '' Hartogiopsis'', ''Polycardia'', ''Ptelidium'', and ''Salvadoropsis'') are endemic to Madagascar. Karl Wilhelm Leopold Krug
Karl (or Carl) Wilhelm Leopold Krug (January 7, 1833 – April 4, 1898) was a German businessman, naturalist, ethnographer, diplomat and supporter of scientific collections. Early life and education Born on the estate of Mühlenbeck in the vicinity of Berlin on January 7, 1833, he was educated by private tutors and in several schools (gymnasia), obtaining his matriculation certificate in 1854. Puerto Rico After a short apprenticeship in Bremen, Krug arrived in Puerto Rico in 1857 and started work in the international trading company of Lahmayer & Co. (later Schulze & Co.) in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico. He became partner, and later sole owner of the company. He became vice-consul in Mayaguez of both Germany and Great Britain. Under the influence of his legal advisor Don Domingo Bello y Espinoza, Krug became an avid collector of plants and insects. Ignatz Urban
Ignatz Urban (7 January 1848 – 7 January 1931) was a German botanist. He is known for his contributions to the flora of the Caribbean and Brazil, and for his work as curator of the Berlin Botanical Garden. Born the son of a brewer, Urban showed an interest in botany as an undergraduate. He pursued further study at the University of Bonn and later at the University of Berlin where he gained a doctorate in 1873. Urban was appointed by A. W. Eichler to run the Berlin Botanical Garden and supervised its move to Dahlem. He also worked as Eichler's assistant on the ''Flora Brasiliensis'', later succeeding him as editor. In 1884 Urban began working with Leopold Krug on his Puerto Rican collections, a collaboration would later produce the nine-volume '' Symbolae Antillanae'', one of his most important contributions, and his 30-part ''Sertum Antillanum''.
