TopNotch
TopNotch is a Dutch record label specializing in hip-hop. The label was founded in 1995, and is run by Vincent Patty. After some commercial success (with rap acts such as De Jeugd van Tegenwoordig, The Opposites, Def Rhymz, Postmen, and Extince) it became allied with Virgin EMI Records, and since 2004 has a marketing and distribution deal with PIAS Entertainment Group. It has expanded into Dutch-language music by singer-songwriters such as Lucky Fonz III, and in 2009 signed a distribution and marketing agreement with Universal Music Group. Still praised in 2009 as "the brand for high-quality Dutch hip-hop", it sought to expand into other musical genres. Latest artist to leave Top Notch was Ronnie Flex on April 22 2021. After a conflict were both parties couldn't agree on a new contract. History Founder Kees de Koning is a former music journalist and manager of Anouk. The Opposites
The Opposites are a Dutch rap group, consisting of rappers (Willy) and Twan van Steenhoven ( Big2). The two started rapping when de Bruin had to write a rap for his teacher as a punishment. Willem realized his rap potential and decided to continue rapping, together with friend Twan van Steenhoven he became addicted to Hip hop, so they say. The name The Opposites is a reference to the fact that Willem is short and a person of color, whereas Twan is tall and white. Early years After participating in a demo contest on the internet The Opposites got in touch with Mastermind Records which wanted to make a follow up on the very popular album Streetremixes from D-men. The group contributed to both Streetremixes 2 and 3, along with other rappers like: Yes-R, Brace, Lange Frans and Baas B. Gers Pardoel
Gerwin Pardoel (born 12 May 1981), better known by his stage name Gers Pardoel or mononymously as Gers, is a Dutch rapper. He rose to fame in 2009, due to his successful collaboration with The Opposites on the single " Broodje Bakpao". Pardoel's debut studio album '' Deze wereld is van jou'' was released in November 2011 and was certified Platinum by the NVPI. The Nederhop artist is best known for his number-one single " Ik neem je mee", which became the most successful Dutch-language and Dutch-artist hit in the Dutch Top 40 ever. Aux Raus
Aux Raus was a musical duo consisting of Bastiaan Bosma and Luuk Bouwman. Their music can be described as a kind of hardcore-punk with techno beats. They are also described as "gabber punk". The live shows of Aux Raus often ended up with a half-naked frontman. History In 2006 Aux Raus released the album ''This Is How This Works'' in Mexico on the Nuevos Ricos label, and the following year in the Netherlands on the Amsterdam record label Fear Recordings. The album won a 3VOOR12 award and Essent Awards for best album. The duo performed at festivals, including Lowlands 2007 and Lowlands 2009, Noorderslag 2007 and on stage at Club 3voor12. Opgezwolle
Opgezwolle () was a Dutch rap group consisting of MCs Sticky Steez and Phreako Rico, and beatmaker DJ Dippy Delic. Biography In 2001 Opgezwolle competed in a contest called "De Oogst van Overijssel". After winning the final in Enschede in May 2001 they got a place in the regional final of the GPNL, and in the summer they recorded their first album ''Spuugdingen op de Mic''. Opgezwolle made it to the final of the GPNL where they competed with Raymzter. The jury thought that Raymzter made a better impression and he won the contest. DJ Delic got a prize as "Musician of the Evening". On the evening before the GPNL final, they presented ''Spuugdingen op de Mic'' in Hedon, Zwolle. Dino Orpheo Canterburg (born 2 July 1986, in Paramaribo), better known by his stage name Damaru, is a Surinamese singer and rapper. He is best known for his song " Mi Rowsu (Tuintje In Mijn Hart)" with Dutch singer Jan Smit. The Partysquad is a Dutch DJ production team. It consists of Jerry Leembruggen, Ruben Fernhout and Lorenzo Biemans. Since the early 2000s they have had 12 singles charting on the Dutch Top 40. They produced part of British rapper M.I.A.'s fourth and fifth albums, ''Matangi'', released in 2013, and '' AIM'', released in 2016. Tourist LeMC (born 1984, in Schoten) is the artist name of Flemish singer Johannes Faes. He sings in an adaptation of the local Antverpian dialect, altered with non-local sounds and emphases; his music is mainly influenced by French hip-hop, as well as reggae, cabaret, and folk. Postmen (band)
Postmen is a reggae/ hip hop band from the Netherlands; the original line-up consisted of Remon 'The Anonymous Mis' Stotijn, Michael 'Rollarocka' Parkinson and Gus 'G-Boah' Bear. History The group was founded by The Anonymous Mis and G-Boah in 1993. They were influenced by Kool G Rap, Eric B & Rakim, Burning Spear and Bob Marley.
