Tony Henderson
Anthony Joseph Henderson (born 14 January 1954 in Newcastle upon Tyne, England) is a former association footballer who captained Australia five times in the early 1980s. Playing career Club career Henderson played youth football at Blackpool before signing for Rotherham United where he made six league appearances between 1970 and 1974. In 1975 moved to South Africa where he turned out for Durban United before moving during the 1975 season to East London. He played at East London until the end of the 1976 season. In 1977, he joined Canberra City for the first year of the Australian National Soccer League. In two seasons with City he played 51 matches, scoring five goals. Before the 1979 NSL season Henderson transferred to Marconi Stallions. In ten seasons with the West Sydney team he played 243 matches, scoring 16 goals. Australia National Soccer B Team
Australia B is a secondary soccer team occasionally as support for the Australia national soccer team. The team has only ever played nine matches; winning one, drawing six, and losing two. It has been inactive since 1985. Concept and history The national B team was designed to give games to players who were being considered for call-up to the full national squad. Generally, the team played in friendly matches against other international B teams or club sides. Australia B were one of several teams which entered a "World Series" held in Australia in 1984, which included Rangers, Juventus, Australia A, Nottingham Forest and Iraklis. National Soccer League
The National Soccer League (NSL) was the top-level soccer league in Australia, run by Soccer Australia and later the Australian Soccer Association. The NSL, the A-League's predecessor, spanned 28 seasons from its inception in 1977 until its demise in 2004, when it was succeeded by the A-League competition run by Football Federation Australia, the successor to the Australian Soccer Association. During the history of the NSL the league was contested by a total of 42 teams; 41 based in Australia and one based in New Zealand. Seasons initially ran during the winter seasons, until 1989 when this was changed to the summer season. Civic is the city centre or central business district of Canberra.
