Toneelschrijfprijs
The Toneelschrijfprijs is an annual literary award awarded to the playwrights of a Dutch-language play that debuted in the preceding season. The award ceremony is held in either Flanders or the Netherlands. The prize was first awarded in 1988 as the ''Nederlands-Vlaamse Toneelschrijfprijs''. The award was renamed in 1993 to ''Taalunie Toneelschrijfprijs'' and in 2018 to ''Toneelschrijfprijs''. As of 2018 the prize is a collaboration between the Nederlandse Taalunie (Dutch Language Union), the Fonds Podiumkunsten, the Nederlands Letterenfonds and the Vlaams Fonds voor de Letteren. Alex Van Warmerdam
Alex van Warmerdam (born 14 August 1952) is a Dutch screenwriter, film director, and actor. He is also a painter. Life and career Van Warmerdam was born in Haarlem, a city in the province of North Holland in the Netherlands. He was cofounder of the theatre group Hauser Orkater (which later became the musictheatre group Orkater). In 1980, he founded the theatre group De Mexicaanse Hond (The Mexican Dog), together with his brother Marc van Warmerdam. This is the name under which all the shows since 1989 have been released. He made his first feature film in 1986: ''Abel''. He plays a role in each of his films so far, with the exception of Grimm (film), Grimm (2003). Alex van Warmerdam is married to Dutch actress Annet Malherbe, who plays parts in most of his films and also functions as a casting director. Kris Cuppens
Kris Cuppens (born 22 May 1962) is a Belgian actor and writer. Cuppens was born in Neeroeteren and discovered theatre in secondary school. He studied architecture at university, but rediscovered his love for the theatre during an audition for Jan Fabre in Brussels. After studying acting at the royal conservatory, he left Belgium for New York, to study at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute. In 1995 he appeared on television in the series ''Heterdaad'' ("Caught Red Handed") in the role of police inspector Willy Martens. He met Dirk Tuypens, with whom he became involved in the peace movement and bombspotting. This collaboration led to the theatrical production '' Vaderland'' ("Fatherland"). Anne Vegter
Anne Vegter (born 31 December 1958, Delfzijl) is a Dutch poet, playwright and writer of children's literature. She is the first woman to hold the position of Dichter des Vaderlands (Dutch Poet Laureate). Early life Vegter attended a gymnasium in Drachten and Epe. She studied art history and pedagogy in at the Academie voor Expressie door Woord en Gebaar in Utrecht in the late seventies. In 1976, she worked in a psychiatric institution. In 1977, she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Career Poetry and writing In 1989, she published her first children's book ''De dame en de neushoorn'' with illustrations by Geerten Ten Bosch. For this book they were awarded the Woutertje Pieterse Prijs in 1990. The main characters in this book were first introduced in the children's magazine ''St. Kitts van de Bovenwindse''. Anna Enquist
Anna Enquist (born 19 July 1945) is the pen name of one of the more popular authors in the Netherlands, Christa Widlund-Broer. She is known for both her poetry and her novels. Biography Born in Amsterdam, Enquist studied piano at the music academy in The Hague and psychology at Leiden University. Her first poems appeared in the journal ''Maatstaf'' in 1988, while her first collection ''Soldatenliederen'' (Soldiers' Songs) was published in 1991, while she was still working as a psychoanalyst. David Van Reybrouck
David Grégoire Van Reybrouck (born 11 September 1971, in Bruges) is a Belgian cultural historian, archaeologist and author. He writes historical fiction, literary non-fiction, novels, poetry, plays and academic texts. He has received several Dutch literary prizes, including AKO Literature Prize (2010) and Libris History Prize. Background and education Van Reybrouck was born into a family of florists, bookbinders and artists. Judith Herzberg
Judith Frieda Lina Herzberg (born 4 November 1934) is a Dutch poet and writer. Life and work Judith Herzberg is the daughter of lawyer and writer Abel Herzberg. During World War II Herzberg went into hiding on various locations. Since 1983 Herzberg lives alternately in the Netherlands and Israel. She mainly writes poems and plays, and also works on films. Herzberg debuted in 1961 as a poet in the weekly ''Vrij Nederland''. Two years later, she published her first poetry collection, ''Zeepost''. She also wrote the plays ''Leedvermaak'', ''Charlotte'' and '' Rijgdraad'', which were made into films by Frans Weisz. ''Charlotte'' is about the painter Charlotte Salomon who was murdered in Auschwitz. In 1997 Herzberg received the P. C. Hooft Award for her entire oeuvre. Ramsey Nasr
Ramsey Nasr (born 28 January 1974, Rotterdam) is a Dutch author and actor of mixed descent, half Palestinian, half Dutch. He was '' Dichter des Vaderlands'' (Poet of the Fatherland; an unofficial title for the Dutch poet laureate) between January 2009 and January 2013. The concept of this was created by the Dutch newspaper NRC Handelsblad, the Nederlandse Programma Stichting and the foundation Poetry International in January 2000.
