Tompkins Consolidated Area Transit, Inc., usually referred to as TCAT, is a private, non-profit public transportation operator, created by Cornell University, Tompkins County, and the City of Ithaca to serve Tompkins County, New York. The vast majority of TCAT bus routes are based in the City of Ithaca and surrounding urban area. These routes serve Ithaca College, Cornell University, and Tompkins Cortland Community College. Ithaca Tompkins International Airport is a county-owned airport located in the Town of Lansing, three miles northeast of Ithaca, the county seat and only city in Tompkins County, New York. Newfield, New York
Newfield is a town in Tompkins County, New York, United States. The population was 5,184 at the 2020 census. The town's name is derived from the many unoccupied tracts of land that were once in the town. The Town of Newfield is in the southwest part of the county and is southwest of Ithaca, New York. History Newfield was formed, before Tompkins County was created, from the Town of Spencer (in Tioga County) in 1811 as the "Town of Cayuta." In 1822, the town assumed its current name. Danby is a town in Tompkins County, New York, United States. The population was 3,457 at the 2020 census. The town is in the southern part of the county and is south of the city of Ithaca. History The Cayuga people, one of the Six Nations of the Haudenosaunee, occupied the land at the head of Cayuga Lake for centuries. Indigenous peoples were largely forced out of Upstate New York by the Sullivan-Clinton Expedition in 1779. Groton is a village in Tompkins County, New York, United States. The population was 2,363 at the 2010 census. The Village of Groton is near the center of the Town of Groton and is northeast of Ithaca and west of Cortland. History The village lies within the former Central New York Military Tract and was first settled by outsiders around 1795. Before then, the only purpose of the land surrounding Groton was to host the winding trails of the Native Americans that once lived in central New York.
