Tomoe Kawabata
is a Japanese figure skater. She is the 2019–20 Japanese national bronze medalist. She has represented Japan at two World Junior Championships. Career Early years Kawabata began learning to skate in 2008. Making her junior debut, she placed 15th at the 2015 Japan Championships. She competed as a senior at the 2018 Japan Championships and finished in 21st place. In January 2018, she won gold in the junior ladies' category at the Bavarian Open. 2018–2019 season Kawabata received two 2018–19 Junior Grand Prix (JGP) assignments. She placed fifth in the short program, sixth in the free skate, and fifth overall at JGP Slovakia, held in Bratislava, Slovakia, and had the same final result at JGP Slovenia held in Ljubljana, Slovenia. The Bavarian Open is an annual international figure skating competition organized by the Skating Union of Bavaria. Since 2011, it is sanctioned by the Deutsche Eislauf Union and the International Skating Union. The event is held in February at Eissportzentrum Oberstdorf in Oberstdorf, Germany. Michel Legrand
Michel Jean Legrand (; 24 February 1932 – 26 January 2019) was a French musical composer, arranger, conductor, and jazz pianist. Legrand was a prolific composer, having written over 200 film and television scores, in addition to many songs. His scores for two of the films of French New Wave director Jacques Demy, ''The Umbrellas of Cherbourg'' (1964) and ''The Young Girls of Rochefort'' (1967), earned Legrand his first Academy Award nominations. Legrand won his first Oscar for the song "The Windmills of Your Mind" from '' The Thomas Crown Affair'' (1968), and additional Oscars for ''Summer of '42'' (1971) and Barbra Streisand's '' Yentl'' (1983). ''The Umbrellas of Cherbourg'' (french: Les Parapluies de Cherbourg) is a 1964 musical romantic drama film written and directed by Jacques Demy, with music and lyrics by Michel Legrand. Catherine Deneuve and Nino Castelnuovo star as two young lovers in the French city of Cherbourg, separated by circumstance. The short program of figure skating is the first of two segments of competitions, skated before the free skating program. It lasts, for both senior and junior singles and pair skaters, 2 minutes and 40 seconds. In synchronized skating, for both juniors and seniors, the short program lasts 2 minutes and 50 seconds. Vocal music with lyrics is allowed for all disciplines since the 2014-2015 season. The short program for single skaters and for pair skaters consists of seven required elements, and there are six required elements for synchronized skaters. 2020–21 Japan Figure Skating Championships
The 2020–21 Japan Figure Skating Championships were held in Nagano, Nagano from December 23–27, 2020. It was the 89th edition of the event. Medals were awarded in the disciplines of men's singles, ladies' singles, and ice dance. The results were part of the Japanese selection criteria for the 2021 World Championships. Qualifying Competitors either qualified at regional and sectional competitions, held from September to November 2020, or earned a bye. 2020 NHK Trophy
The 2020 NHK Trophy was the sixth event in the 2020–21 ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating, a senior-level international invitational competition series. It was held at Osaka Prefectural Kadoma Sports Center (Towa Pharmaceutical Ractab Dome) in Osaka, Japan on November 27–29. Medals were awarded in the disciplines of men's singles, ladies' singles, and ice dance. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, a large number of modifications were made to the Grand Prix structure. The competitors consisted only of skaters from the home country, skaters already training in the host nation, and skaters assigned to that event for geographic reasons. The Japan Open is an annual senior international figure skating team Figure skating competition, competition organized by the Japan Skating Federation.
