Thomas Caulfield Irwin (4 May 1823 – 20 February 1892) was an Irish poet, writer, and classical scholar. He was born in Warrenpoint, County Down, to a prosperous family. He was educated privately. He travelled to Europe and Africa but later became impoverished through the collapse of family fortunes. He took up journalism in Dublin around 1848. Tom Irwin (born June 1, 1956) is an American film, television, and stage actor. Irwin is best known for his roles as Adrian Powell in the Lifetime comedy-drama series ''Devious Maids'' and as Graham Chase in the mid-1990s drama ''My So-Called Life''. Early life and education Born in Peoria, Illinois, Irwin graduated from Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois. He joined the Steppenwolf Theatre Company in 1979, where he performed alongside Laurie Metcalf, John Malkovich, Joan Allen, and Gary Sinise. Career Irwin has been on the faculty of The Theatre School at DePaul University and Columbia College Chicago. He is a class instructor at Steppenwolf Theatre Company West School of Drama in Los Angeles. Thomas Joseph Irwin (born August 8, 1949), known professionally as "Shotgun Tom" Kelly, is an American radio and television personality, two-time Emmy award winner, '' Billboard'' Air Personality of the Year winner and recipient of a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Born in San Diego, Kelly worked at KDEO, KPRI, KGB, KCBQ, KOGO, KBZS and KFMB-FM before replacing the late Don Steele in the afternoon slot at Los Angeles oldies station KRTH-FM, K-Earth 101. Thomas Irwin (1 July 1873 – 22 February 1956) was an Irish people, Irish Gaelic footballer, hurling, hurler, referee and Gaelic games administrator who played in various positions for both Cork GAA, Cork senior teams. One of the earliest dual players at the highest levels, he first played in All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship 1892, 1892 and was a regular member of both teams until his retirement in All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship 1902, 1902. He won one All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, All-Ireland hurling medal, three Munster Senior Hurling Championship, Munster hurling medals and three Munster Senior Football Championship, Munster football medals. At club level Irwin was a multiple county club championship medalist with Redmonds GAA, Redmond's and Nils GAA, Nils. Tommy Irwin (baseball)
Thomas Andrew Irwin (December 20, 1912 – April 25, 1996) was a Major League Baseball player. Born in Altoona, Pennsylvania, Irwin attended the University of North Carolina, where he played on the school's baseball team. After graduating from college, he signed with the Cleveland Indians, and began playing professionally with the New Orleans Pelicans of the Southern Association. He won the starting shortstop job to begin the 1936 season despite not having any professional baseball experience beforehand. Irwin played in 151 games for the Pelicans both in 1937 and 1938, and finished his second season with a .322 batting average. Entering the 1938 Cleveland Indians season, Irwin was invited to spring training, and was noted as someone who could win the starting second baseman job. He did not win the job, and was optioned to the Milwaukee Brewers. He played in 125 games on the season, where he had a .296 batting average. Thomas Irwin (February 22, 1785 – May 14, 1870) was a United States representative from Pennsylvania and a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania. Education and career Born on February 22, 1785, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Irwin attended the common schools, Franklin College (now Franklin & Marshall College) in Lancaster, Pennsylvania and read law in 1808. Thomas James Irwin (21 June 1889 – 15 May 1962) was a Canadian politician serving in the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia and the House of Commons of Canada. Irwin was born in Dumbarton, Scotland and became a farmer by trade. He was elected to the BC legislature in the 1952 provincial election at the Delta electoral district as a provincial Social Credit candidate. Thomas Irwin (died 1941 or 1942) was a Scottish trade unionist and politician, who played a prominent role in the split of the Independent Labour Party from the Labour Party. Living in Dumbarton, Irwin worked as a boilermaker, and became active in the United Society of Boilermakers. He also joined the Independent Labour Party (ILP), which was affiliated to the Labour Party. He was elected to Dumbarton Town Council, and became a bailie. In addition, he was involved in the National Union of Unemployed Workers, serving as its treasurer. Irwin was selected by the Boilermakers as a prospective Parliamentary candidate, and at the 1929 United Kingdom general election, he stood in Montrose Burghs. He took 44.5% of the votes cast, and a strong second place. As a result of this, he was selected to stand in the 1930 East Renfrewshire by-election by the local Labour Party and Trades Council. Thomas Telford Irvin (July 14, 1929 – September 14, 2017) was an American politician who served as Georgia's Commissioner of Agriculture from 1969 until January 2011. Irvin holds a record as the longest-serving Commissioner of Agriculture in the United States, and the longest-serving statewide official in Georgia.
