Tommy Houston
Tommy Houston (born January 29, 1945) is a retired NASCAR Busch Series driver. Over his career, Houston and Jack Ingram became known as the pair of journeymen drivers that helped that series grow throughout the 1980s and early 1990s. Houston was born in Hickory, North Carolina, and was in the NASCAR Late Model Sportsman division, winning nearly 150 races before the series was formed into the Busch Series. Busch Series career Houston made the inaugural race of the Busch Series at the 1982 Daytona race. Driving the No. 27 Kings Inn Chevy for Mike Day, Houston started 23rd and finished the race in ninth position. The next week, Houston started 15th at the series' first ever short track race, at Richmond Fairgrounds Raceway. Hickory, North Carolina
Hickory is a city located primarily in Catawba County, with formal boundaries extending into Burke and Caldwell counties. The city lies in the U.S. state of North Carolina. At the time of the 2020 census, Hickory's population was 43,490. Tommy Ellis
Tommy Ellis (born August 8, 1947) is an American former stock car racing driver who competed in the 1970s and 1980s. Often referred to as "Terrible" Tommy Ellis for his rough tactics, he won the last national late model sportsman championship in 1981, the final year before the format changed from "points chasing" late model sportsman racing at various short tracks across the country (now known as the Whelen All-American Series) to the current touring format, currently known as the Xfinity Series, the next year. He won the successor series in 1988. Racing career Ellis's success (12 poles and 8 wins) in the first two seasons of the Busch Series earned him a shot at a Winston Cup ride. Driving for most of three seasons in the Chevrolet camp, his best finish was an eighth at Dover in 1986. Hickory Speedway
Hickory Motor Speedway is a short track located in Hickory, North Carolina. It is one of stock car racing's most storied venues, and is often referred to as the "World's Most Famous Short Track" and the "Birthplace of the NASCAR Stars". The track first opened in 1951 as a dirt track. Gwyn Staley won the first race at the speedway and later became the first track champion. Drivers such as Junior Johnson, Ned Jarrett, and Ralph Earnhardt also became track champions in the 1950s, with Earnhardt winning five of them. In 1953, NASCAR's Grand National Series (later the NASCAR Cup Series) visited the track for the first time. Tim Flock won the first race at the speedway, which became a regular part of the Grand National schedule. After winning his track championship in 1952, Junior Johnson became the most successful Grand National driver at Hickory, winning there seven times. Bubba Nissen
Bubba Nissen (born February 5, 1960) is an American former NASCAR driver from Virginia. He competed in twenty-six races in what is now the NASCAR Xfinity Series between 1982 and 1985, driving for his own team in most races. 1982 Season Nissen's best finish in the series would come in his debut, finishing second to Tommy Houston at Richmond. He drove a self-owned #95 Pontiac. Nissen entered a total of eight races in 1982, all of which were in his home state of Virginia, earning five top-10 finishes. 1983 Season and Injury In 1983, Nissen finished twentieth in the season opening race at Daytona. He would only start one more race during the season at Rockingham in March. On lap 148, Nissen was involved in a severe accident from which he suffered a broken leg and face lacerations. Jack Ingram (NASCAR)
Jack Ingram (December 28, 1936 – June 25, 2021) was an American NASCAR Busch Series race car driver. Nicknamed the "Iron Man",TV: Busch Series preview show for Bristol, ESPN2 channel, 24 August 2007, interview with Jack Ingram during eight seasons in the Busch Series, he won 31 races and 5 poles, as well as the 1982 and 1985 championships. Unlike most younger competitors, Ingram won his 31 races between the age of 45 and age 50. Career During most of his time in the series he drove the Skoal Bandit car (1984–1991). Throughout his Busch Series career he almost always raced in the No. 11 car. The NASCAR Xfinity Series (NXS) is a stock car racing series organized by NASCAR. It is promoted as NASCAR's second-tier circuit to the organization's top level Cup Series. Las Vegas Motor Speedway, located in Clark County, Nevada in Las Vegas, Nevada about 15 miles northeast of the Las Vegas Strip, is a complex of multiple tracks for motorsports racing. The complex is owned by Speedway Motorsports, Inc., which is headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina. The Bucked Up 200 was a 134-lap, 200-mile long NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race that took place at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. History The race was first held on November 3, 1996 as the Carquest 420K. The race continued annually until 2000, when the race was removed from the schedule. However, the race returned as the Orleans 350 in 2001. In 2011, the race was moved to October as part of the IndyCar weekend and became an afternoon race.
