Tomas Svensson
Tomas Runar Svensson (born 15 February 1968) is a Swedish former professional handball goalkeeper who is currently goalkeeping coach of the Swedish men's national handball team, and an assistant coach for FC Barcelona. Career Growing up in Eskilstuna it was only natural for him to play for the towns handball team, Eskilstuna Guif, GUIF, and he was moved up to their senior squad, making his debut in the Swedish Elitserien (men's handball), top division at the age of 15. In 1988, at the age of 20, he made his first cap for Sweden and in 1990 he was one of the main forces in the national team who won the 1990 World Men's Handball Championship, World Championship in Czechoslovakia. This success landed him a contract with Atlético Madrid BM in Spain where he played for some time before moving to CD Bidasoa. With this team he won his first Spanish championship in 1995. Eskilstuna
Eskilstuna () is a city and the seat of Eskilstuna Municipality, Södermanland County, Sweden. The city of Eskilstuna had 67,359 inhabitants in 2015, with a total population of 100,092 inhabitants in Eskilstuna municipality (2014). Eskilstuna has a large Sweden Finn population. The town is located on the River Eskilstunaån, which connects Lake Hjälmaren and Lake Mälaren. History Eskilstuna's history dates back to medieval times when English monk Saint Eskil made "Tuna" his base and diocese of the South coast of Lake Mälaren. Saint Eskil was stoned to death by the pagan vikings of neighbouring town Strängnäs, east of Eskilstuna, trying to convert them to Christianity. Saint Eskil was buried in his monastery church in Tuna. Later the pagan city of Strängnäs was Christianised and was given the privilege of becoming diocese of South Lake Mälaren. Elitserien (men's Handball)
Handbollsligan ''(literally, "The Handball league")'' is the highest league in the league system of Swedish handball, and comprises the top 14 Swedish handball teams. The first season began in 1931–32. The season ends with a playoff. Structure The season starts in September with a regular season comprising 14 teams meeting each other twice. A total of 26 rounds. The eight best teams after the regular season qualifies for the play-off. The 14th team is relegated, and the 11th, 12th and 13th team plays matches against the second, third and fourth from Allsvenskan to qualify for next season's Handbollsligan. The season ends with the finals in the beginning of May and the winning team qualifies directly to EHF European League and the losing team qualifies for the EHF European Cup. The European Men's Handball Championship is the official competition for senior men's national handball teams of Europe and takes place every two years since 1994, in the even-numbered year between the World Championship.
