''Tom of Finland'' is a 2017 biographical drama film directed by Dome Karukoski and written by Aleksi Bardy. It stars Pekka Strang as Touko Laaksonen, better known as Tom of Finland, a Finnish homoerotic artist. ''Tom of Finland'' premiered on 27 January 2017 at Gothenburg Film Festival and was released theatrically in Finland on 24 February 2017. It was selected as the Finnish entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 90th Academy Awards, but it was not nominated. Premise Touko Laaksonen returns home after serving in World War II. Dome Karukoski
Thomas "Dome" August George Karukoski (; born 29 December 1976) is a Finnish film director. He is considered to be one of Finland's most successful film directors, having won over 30 festival awards and having directed six feature films that became blockbusters in his home country and also received international recognition. Career in films In 1999, Karukoski was one of only 3 new students admitted to the University of Art and Design Helsinki to major in directing; he had had no former experience in directing or holding a camera. Beauty and the Bastard Karukoski's debut feature ''Beauty and the Bastard'' (''Tyttö sinä olet tähti'') showed at the Berlin International Film Festival and Tribeca Film Festival in 2006. Athletic Model Guild
The Athletic Model Guild, or AMG, was a physique photography studio founded by Bob Mizer in December 1945. During those post-war years, United States censorship laws allowed women, but not men, to appear in various states of undress in what were referred to as "art photographs". Mizer began his business by taking pictures of men that he knew. His subjects would often pose for pictures which illustrated fitness tips and the like, but were also viewed as homoerotic material. History Mizer established the Guild in December 1945 after spending the earlier part of the year taking photographs at Venice Beach and the offices were based around his life-long home. Þorsteinn Bachmann (born 25 October 1965) is an Icelandic actor. He is known for his role as Móri in ''Life in a Fishbowl''. In 2015 he won an Edda Award for that same role. Early life Þorsteinn grew up in the Fossvogur area of ReykjavÃk, Iceland before moving to Breiðholt when he was 10 years old. He did not do well in school in the early years. Looking back, he remembers that he was barely able to read or write before changing schools from Fossvogur to the one in Breiðholt. Career Þorsteinn graduated from the Icelandic Drama School in 1991.
