Tom Healy (poet)
Tom Healy (born 1961) is an American poet and public servant. From 2011-2014, Healy was the chairman of the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board, which oversees the Fulbright scholars program worldwide. He was appointed to the Fulbright Board by President Barack Obama in 2011 and was elected by the Board three times to serve as its chairman. Under his leadership, the Fulbright program won the Princess of Asturias Awards presented by the King of Spain. Under President Bill Clinton, Healy was a member of the Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS (PACHA). Since the 1990s, Healy has played an active role in the New York City arts scene. After the September 11 attacks in 2001, he served as the president of the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council (LMCC), where he led rebuilding efforts for the downtown arts community. Tom Healy (hurler)
Tom or Tommy Healy (1855 in Littleton, County Tipperary – ?) was an Irish sportsperson. He played hurling with his local club Thurles Sarsfields and was a member of the very first Tipperary inter-county team in 1887. Tommy Healy was born in Coolcroo, Littleton, County Tipperary in 1855. He was noted as a fine sportsperson and represented his native Thurles hurling club in the 1880s. In 1887 he won a Tipperary Senior Hurling Championship title with the club, and was consequently picked, with the rest of the team, to represent Tipperary in the inaugural All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship. Healy's most notable moment came when he scored the very first goal in an All-Ireland Hurling Final. This happened in the 1887 final, when Tipperary played against Galway.
