Tom Coughlan (football)
Tom Coughlan was chairman of Cork City Football Club, Cork City from 2008 to 2010. Originally taking over the club following examinership in 2008, he was banned from the game in 2009 for twelve months. Due to accounting failures, the holding company of Cork City, Cork City Investments Fc Limited, was denied a League of Ireland Premier Division licence and later wound up. Background In 1997, Coughlan ran for election to the Dáil as a candidate for the Progressive Democrats in Cork South-Central (Dáil constituency), Cork South-Central. He was not elected. He had previously been associated with Fianna Fáil and was election agent for Billy Kelleher's unsuccessful first run for the Dáil in 1992. Cork City Football Club
Cork City Football Club ( ga, Cumann Peile Chathair Chorcaí) is an Irish association football club based in Cork. The club was founded and elected to the League of Ireland in 1984. It was one of the first clubs in Ireland (and the first in Cork) to field a team of professional footballers. With the progression of professionalism at the club, continued development of the Turners Cross stadium and the transition to summer football, the club became one of the biggest and best supported clubs in the country. In a survey published in 2020, the club was the highest supported League of Ireland (LOI) club. Cork City FC won its third LOI Premier Division title, and first FAI Cup double, during the 2017 season. Examinership
Examinership is a process in Irish law whereby the protection of the Court is obtained to assist the survival of a company. It allows a company to restructure with the approval of the High Court. To obtain the appointment of an examiner it is necessary to petition the High Court and persuade the court that there is a reasonable prospect of survival of the company and the whole or part of its undertaking if an examiner is appointed. The examiner has a fixed period of 70 days (extensible to 100 days) in which to prepare a scheme of arrangement, which must be approved by at least one class of creditors of the company. If it can be shown that the scheme provides for the survival of the company and the whole or part of its undertaking and that it is not unfairly prejudicial to any creditor(s) of the company the court has discretion to approve the scheme. Progressive Democrats
The Progressive Democrats ( ga, An Páirtí Daonlathach, literally "The Democratic Party" ), commonly referred to as the PDs, was a conservative-liberal political party in the Republic of Ireland. Launched on 21 December 1985 by Desmond O'Malley and other politicians who had split from Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael, the Progressive Democrats took liberal positions on divorce, contraception and other social issues. The party also supported economic liberalisation, advocating measures such as lower taxation, fiscal conservatism, privatisation and welfare reform. Alan Mathews
Alan Mathews (born 27 June 1965) is a former Irish football player and manager. He is currently technical director at St Patrick's Athletic. Coaching career Following a stint as assistant at Shelbourne, Alan Mathews became Longford manager in the summer of 2002. He went on to become the most successful manager in Longford Town's history, delivering their first senior trophy with a 2–0 win over St. Patrick's in the 2003 FAI Cup Final at Lansdowne Road. Longford retained it the following year, completing the double of the FAI Cup and League Cup. He was named Soccer Writers' Association of Ireland "Personality of the Year" in 2003. Mathews left Longford Town in 2007, and replaced Damien Richardson as Cork City manager on 10 January 2008. 96FM is one of three local radio stations licensed by the Broadcasting Commission of Ireland for Cork (city), Cork City and County Cork, County in Ireland (the other two being its sister station C103 and youth music station Red FM (Ireland), Red FM). League Of Ireland In Cork City
Cork is a city in Ireland, located in the South-West Region, in the province of Munster. It is the second largest city in the Republic of Ireland and the third most populous on the island of Ireland. Eight association football clubs/teams or franchises from Cork have represented the city in the League of Ireland. In 1924–25 Fordsons became the first team from the city to join the league.
