Tom Cochran (politician)
Tom Cochran is an American politician, government official, and retired firefighter. A Democrat, Cochran served in the Michigan House of Representatives from 2013 to 2019. Cochran formerly served as chief of the Lansing Fire Department, retiring in January 2012. He is also a former member of the Mason School Board. In 2022, he was appointed by Governor Gretchen Whitmer to serve on the State Officers Compensation Commission. Education Cochran received a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in management from Siena Heights University and an associate's degree in fire science from Lansing Community College. The 2012 Michigan House of Representatives elections were held on November 6, 2012, with partisan primaries to select the parties' nominees in the various districts on August 7, 2012. Due to gerrymandering, the Republican Party retained its majority in the House of Representatives despite losing the popular vote. Rep. Roy Schmidt scandal State Representative Roy Schmidt was defeated for re-election after assisting in engineering an election-rigging scandal by which he switched from the Democratic to the Republican Party and recruited a straw candidate to run as a Democrat in order to ensure a swift re-election. The scandal ultimately cost him his seat in the House. Barbara Byrum
Barbara Anne Byrum (born November 10, 1977) is a Democratic politician from the State of Michigan. Byrum currently serves as the Ingham County Clerk. Prior to her election to the position of Clerk, Byrum represented the 67th District in the Michigan House of Representatives. She succeeded her mother, House Minority Leader Dianne Byrum. Gretchen Whitmer
Gretchen Esther Whitmer (born August 23, 1971) is an American lawyer and politician serving as the 49th governor of Michigan since 2019. A member of the Democratic Party, she served in the Michigan House of Representatives from 2001 to 2006 and in the Michigan Senate from 2006 to 2015. Whitmer was born and raised in Michigan. She is a graduate of Forest Hills Central High School near Grand Rapids, Michigan State University, and the Michigan State University College of Law, which at the time was the Detroit College of Law.
