Tom Bush (7 January 1918 – 17 November 1951) was an Australian rules football Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. He played five games for Melbourne from 1942 to 1944, and later played for several clubs in regional leagues. He won the best and fairest awards as coach for Peechelba and Moyhu in the late 1940s. Early life and career Bush, who was originally from Berrigan was cleared from St. Kilda to Melbourne where he played from 1942 to 1944. The Berrigan Football Netball Club, nicknamed the Saints, is an Australian rules football and netball club playing in the Picola & District Football League. The club is based in the small town of Berrigan located in the Riverina district of New South Wales. History The Berrigan Football Club's first recorded match was against Cobram, at Cobram in 1891 and initially competed in the Murray Border Football Association in 1895 and 1896, then competed in the Southern Riverina Football Association (SRFA) from 1905 to 1930. Berrigan won ten SRFA premierships against teams such as Finley, Leniston, Tocumwal and Jerilderie. In 1931 and 1932, Berrigan, Finley and Nathalia applied to join the Murray Football League, but were knocked back on the grounds of excessive travel for the other competing club. The Australian Football League (AFL) is the only fully professional competition of Australian rules football. Through the AFL Commission, the AFL also serves as the sport's governing body and is responsible for controlling the laws of the game. Ovens & Murray Football League
The Ovens and Murray Football Netball League (O&MFNL) is an Australian rules football and netball competition containing ten clubs based in north-eastern Victoria, the southern Riverina region of New South Wales and the Ovens and Murray area. The name comes from the Ovens River, the river in the part of north-eastern Victoria covered by the league, and the Murray River, which separates Victoria and New South Wales. The league features three grades in the Australian rules football competition, with these being First-Grade, Reserve-Grade and Under 18s. In the netball competition, there are four grades, with these being A-Grade, B-Grade, C-Grade and Under 16s. Currently a home and away season consisting of eighteen rounds is played. The Ovens & King Football Netball League is a minor country Australian rules football league based in North-Eastern Victoria in the vicinity of Wangaratta and more recently Benalla. History The ''Ovens & King Football League'' was formed on the 13th of June 1903, after a handful of men met at The Bulls Head Hotel in Wangaratta to consider forming a football competition. One week later, the first matches of the Ovens & King Football Association were played. The competition changed its name to the Ovens and King Football League after the 1928 season. Today, more than 100 years later, teams from Benalla, Bright, Greta, King Valley, Milawa, Moyhu, North Wangaratta, Tarrawingee and Whorouly participate in seniors, reserves and five netball grades. The South West District Football League was a major Australian rules football competition which ran from 1910 until 1981 in the Riverina region of New South Wales. History The first recorded Australian Rules Football match in the Riverina area was on the 1st August, 1881 between Wagga Wagga and the more experienced Albury team and was played in Wagga. The South West District Football Association (SWDFL) was formed in 1913, when it superseded the Ganmain Football Association, which was formed in 1910, with all clubs moving into play in the SWDFL competition. In 1924 a South Western District Football League team played Collingwood Football Club at Narrandera with Collingwood winning, 86 to SWDFL 76.
