Toko Yasuda
Toko Yasuda is a Japanese singer, songwriter, keyboardist, guitarist, and bassist, best known as a member of New York indie rock band Enon and as a musician in live St. Vincent performances. Life and career Yasuda grew up in the cities of Fujisawa and Kamakura. Her father was once a dōshu of Aikido. She moved to New York City in 1992, and lived there until 2006. Yasuda has played in the bands The Lapse and The Van Pelt before their disbandment, and had a brief stint in Blonde Redhead. After that Toko appeared in the band Enon from 1999 to 2007. Yasuda plays bass guitar, electronic keyboards, electric guitar and sings. Welsh singer/songwriter Cate le Bon noted "She has the voice of a beautiful, icy ghost; it might be the spookiest thing I've ever heard." Plvs Vltra
Plvs Vltra is the indie rock solo project of Toko Yasuda (Enon (band), Enon, Blonde Redhead, The Lapse, The Van Pelt), featuring melodic, fractured tunes created on samplers, vintage synthesizers, drum machines and various effects alongside Yasuda's comforting singsong vocals. Since forming in 2012, Plvs Vltra has released two albums and one single. Band name The project's name derives from the motto of Spain, "''plus ultra''", meaning "further beyond" in Latin and stylized with the letter 'V' replacing the letter 'U' as in the early Roman alphabet. The phrase is engraved in a fireplace at Fonthill (house), Fonthill Castle in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. Yasuda was inspired by the motto while touring the historic Arts and Crafts mansion. Cate Le Bon (born Cate Timothy on 4 March 1983) is a Welsh musician and record producer. She sings in both English and Welsh. She has released six solo studio albums, three EPs and a number of singles. Le Bon has toured with artists such as St. Vincent, Perfume Genius and John Grant. Career Le Bon was born on 4 March 1983 in Penboyr, Carmarthenshire, Wales, and first gained public attention when she supported Gruff Rhys (of the Super Furry Animals) on his 2007 solo UK tour. ''Mug Museum'' is the third studio album by Welsh musician Cate Le Bon, released on 12 November 2013 by Turnstile Music and Wichita Recordings. It was produced by Noah Georgeson and Josiah Steinbrick and was recorded in Los Angeles shortly after Le Bon had relocated there from Wales. Thunderbirds are Now! were an American, Livonia, Michigan-based post-punk revival band, whose sound used a mix of traditional post-punk, new wave and noise rock. The band was heavily influenced by 1980s new wave and other post-punk revival acts like Les Savy Fav. The Sun Ra Arkestra is an American jazz group formed in the mid-1950s and led by keyboardist/composer Sun Ra until his death in 1993. The group is considered a pioneer of afrofuturism.
