''Tr3s Lunas'' is the 21st studio album by English musician and songwriter Mike Oldfield, released in June 2002 by Warner Music Spain. After his previous album ''The Millennium Bell'' (1999), Oldfield started work on his first release for MusicVR, a musical virtual reality project with simulator video game elements and music. The idea developed to have the ''Tres Lunas'' MusicVR feature included as part of an album package, for which Oldfield wrote and recorded new music and signed with Warner Music Spain. ''Tr3s Lunas'' saw Oldfield explore electronic and chill-out music. Background Title When translated from the Spanish language to English, the album name ''Tres Lunas'' is ''Three Moons''. Chill-out (shortened as chill; also typeset as chillout or chill out) is a loosely defined form of popular music characterized by slow tempos and relaxed moods. The definition of "chill-out music" has evolved throughout the decades, and generally refers to anything that might be identified as a modern type of easy listening. The term "chill-out music" – originally conflated with "ambient house" – came from an area called "The White Room" at the Heaven nightclub in London in 1989. There, DJs played ambient mixes from sources such as Brian Eno and Pink Floyd to allow dancers a place to "chill out" from the faster-paced music of the main dance floor. "The X-Files" is an instrumental written and produced by American film and television composer Mark Snow. On its parent album, '' The Truth and the Light: Music from the X-Files'', the track is titled "Materia Primoris". It is a remixed version of the original theme Snow composed for the science fiction television series '' The X-Files'' in 1993. The composition was released as a single in 1996 and achieved chart success, particularly in France, where it reached number one on the SNEP Singles Chart.
