Titans RLFC
Newport Titans RLFC were a rugby league side based in the city of Newport, South Wales. Since 2013, they have been based at Newport Saracens RFC. They played in the Welsh Premier of the Rugby League Conference. History ''Newport Titans RLFC'' were formed in 2004 as founder members of the new Rugby League Conference Welsh Division. The founding members found a home for the Titans at Pill Harriers RFC and appointed former international Dai Watkins as President. In their inaugural season Titans finished fourth in the table and were Welsh Shield runners-up. The Titans were close to winning the Welsh Grand Final in 2007. Rugby league football, commonly known as just rugby league and sometimes football, footy, rugby or league, is a full-contact sport played by two teams of thirteen players on a rectangular field measuring 68 metres (75 yards) wide and 112–122 metres (122 to 133 yards) long with H shaped posts at both ends. Rugby League Conference
The Rugby League Conference (RLC) (also known as the Co-operative Rugby League Conference as a result of sponsorship from The Co-operative Group), was a series of regionally based divisions of amateur rugby league teams spread throughout England, Scotland and Wales. The RLC was founded as the 10-team Southern Conference League in 1997, with teams from the southern midlands and the south east, but has subsequently, rebranded and expanded both geographically and numerically to include around 90 teams stretched across almost the whole of Great Britain from Aberdeen in northern Scotland down to Plymouth on the south coast of England. The aim of the RLC was initially to provide regular fixtures for new clubs based outside the 'heartland' of rugby league, although as the playing standards increased, it also accepted teams from the 'heartlands'. Newport Saracens RFC are a Welsh rugby union club based in Newport in South Wales. The club is a member of the Welsh Rugby Union and is a feeder club for the Newport Gwent Dragons. The club was founded in the 1932/33 and after disbanding during the Second World War, with 95% of their team joining HM Armed Forces, reformed for the 1945/46 season. Newport ( cy, Casnewydd; ) is a city and county borough in Wales, situated on the River Usk close to its confluence with the Severn Estuary, northeast of Cardiff. The South Wales Premiership is the league for amateur clubs in southern Wales. Previously it was part of the Rugby League Conference but became standalone in 2012. History The Rugby League Conference was founded in 1997 as the ''Southern Conference'', a 10-team pilot league for teams in the South of England and English Midlands. It expanded into Wales for the first time in 2001 when Cardiff Demons joined the South West division. David Watkins (rugby)
David Watkins (born 5 March 1942) is a Welsh former dual-code rugby international, having played both rugby union and rugby league football for both codes' national teams between 1963 and 1974. He captained the British and Irish Lions rugby union side, and made six appearances for the Great Britain rugby league team. Dinefwr Sharks RLFC were a rugby league side based in Ammanford, South-West Wales. History ''West Wales Sharks'' were formed in the spring of 2006 and joined the Rugby League Conference Welsh Division West. The Sharks played eight games and there were heavy losses in the matches against Bridgend Blue Bulls but they ended their season with two wins against Aberavon Fighting Irish and Swansea Valley Miners. In 2007, the Sharks moved to Furnace United RFC to play their home fixtures. The club played in the Rugby League Conference Welsh Premier division playing seven rounds from May to July. In the first match they lost to the Valley Cougars 12-74 but then won their next match 33-32 against the Cardiff Demons. But they then lost their remaining five matches including a tight 34-30 loss against Torfaen Tigers. Just one win meant that they had finished bottom of the league.
