''Titanes en el ring'' (''Titans in the ring'') was an Argentine lucha libre television program aired between 3 March 1962 and 1988. Background The Armenian Argentine Martín Karadagián (1922-1991) had started at 15 years old practicing Greco-Roman wrestling in the :es:Asociación Cristiana de Jóvenes, Asociación Cristiana de Jóvenes. The following year he joined a troupe of wrestlers, with which he traveled to Europe. After returning to Argentina in 1947, Karadagián maintained a fight at Luna Park (Buenos Aires), Luna Park against :es:Ivan Zelezniak, Ivan Zelezniak, ''El Hombre Montaña''. After to give up the fight Zelezniak (five-time champion from 1947 to 1951), the Armenian was already one of the most attractive conveners of the wrestling in Buenos Aires. Professional wrestling is a form of theater that revolves around staged wrestling matches. The mock combat is performed in a ring similar to the kind used in boxing, and the dramatic aspects of pro wrestling may be performed both in the ring or—as in televised wrestling shows—in backstage areas of the venue, in similar form to reality television. Professional wrestling as a form of theater evolved out of the widespread practice of match fixing among wrestlers in the early 20th century. José María Gatica
José María Gatica (25 May 1925 – 12 November 1963) was an Argentine boxer, one of Argentina's most famous sports idols. Gatica fought 96 times, winning 86 (72 by KO). He was a popular figure in Argentina. However, Gatica's boxing career was surrounded in controversy due to his support of Argentine President Juan Domingo Perón. He was portrayed in the biopic '' Gatica, el mono'', directed by Leonardo Favio in 1993. Biography José María Gatica was born in Villa Mercedes, San Luis, Argentina. Channel 9, known by its brand name El Nueve (stylized as elnueve) is an Argentine free-to-air television network based in Buenos Aires with programming centred on general entertainment. History Origins and first Romay ownership After the fall of the second government of Juan Perón, the military government of Pedro Eugenio Aramburu opened three new television licenses in Buenos Aires for bidding: channels 9, 11 and 13. The winner for channel 9, which would bear the callsign LS 83 TV, was Compañía Argentina de Televisión, S.A. (CADETE), which began its broadcasts in 1960. Canal 9's stock was partially owned by foreign companies, including the United States' NBC.
